Hi folks,

My wife and I bought a 2010 Honda Fit Sport brand new and we love this car. The mileage is fantastic, the handling is great not only for an economy car, but for any car. I actually FIT in this car even though I'm 6'2" and I don't have to slump while driving. I love it.

We've finally worn out some tires, though, and we're looking for replacements. It seems like no matter where I look, though, nobody stocks tires for the "Sport" model, not even the dealership??!!

If I go to SEARS or whatever-local-tire-place and plug in "DX", I get all sorts of tires for Honda Fits, but as soon as I select "Sport" the stock dries up. There's nothing.

What difference is there, if any, between the LX/DX trim package and the Sport package w.r.t. tire size? I know that I should probably know this, but I just don't. I bought the Sport package for the alloy rims and the GPS and the sci-fi trim... ;-)

is your car sporting the 16" wheels? if so, you can run 205/50/16 tires. they are very close to the stock 185/55/16 circumference.

in fact, that is what i am running now. Continental DWS.

 

I think so? By wheels you mean the rims, right?

I really am not kidding about being clueless. :-) What should I measure, from where to where? Or should I just read the sidewall?

yah, wheel is the metal center part of those 4 round things on your car with tires.

check the sidewall of your tires. it will show a size like 185/55/R16 or something. the R16 is your diameter in inches. if you have 15's then i dont know off hand what the popular size is.

 

I'm pretty sure they're 16s, that rings a bell. I know that I can look for xxx/xx/16 tires but I've never been clear on what the other two numbers are. I'd guess width and maybe sidewall height..?

 

yep. 185/55/16

185 is your tire width in mm
55 is your aspect ratio which is the percentage of the width of your tires. (185x0.55)

so you can check www.tirerack.com to see which tires are available for your car too.

if you have 16" wheels, check the 205/50/16. this size is popular and will give you a lot of options.

 

Look at the tires on the car right now. Note the size, and then shop for tires by size.

You can get different tire sizes too, you don't have to get the exact same size that the car came with. Just search online and try to find a size that will keep your speedometer/odometer as accurate as possible.

 

This is where my eyes glaze over and I drool a little bit. :-) If the retailer's system doesn't say "YES THIS TIRE WILL FIT YOUR SPECIFIC CAR" then I have no idea what I'm doing.

I'd love to know how to do this, though. Any good place to go learn about tires and how they affect performance and instrumentation other than working in a shop..?

 

Thanks for the Tire Rack link. This is the first retailer system I've seen that doesn't go blank when I put in "Sport" after "Fit".

So, being that I can't mount or balance tires on my own, and Tire Rack seems to be an online vendor, What I do is order tires, have them shipped, and then take them down to the local and get the stink eye from the guy who wants to sell me his own tires with his own markup..? :-)

 

tirerack has a list of tire shops in your area. i recommend you check with the tireshops if they have a non-touch mounter. otherwise they will scuff the wheel.

tire shops make money from labor mostly so they will not mind doing your mount and balance for $60 ~ $100.
