Color longevity question

Hey guys,
I am 99% decided on buying a Fit this summer. I plan on paying it off and keeping it for a loooong time.

My question:
1) What color looks the newest after 200,000 miles?
2) What colors require extensive attention to retain their showroom look?
2) What colors hide flaws, water spots, etc?

Thanks!

Any lighter color would be your best choice such as white or silver, but as far as a showroom look, keep in mind that the paint is very thin and scratches easily.

+1 for silver

I haven't washed my car because of laziness/weather in about 2 months and it still looks decent. The rain has washed some off.

I'm at 128k on my 08 Base Fit and my car still looks great. I bought it used. With you buying yours new, get silver.

The dark colors will require more effort while the light colors are easy. Plus a silver GE is hot.

Silver. #1 color in New England because it looks the same dirty as clean.

On the other end of the spectrum, black. Way worse than white, which you might not expect.

Get the color you like best, you're going to be looking at it a long time.

My previous car (Infiniti G-20) was silver, never garaged, kept it 15 years. Didn't look new, but washed it looked just fine. Can't render an opinion on Honda paint, but if you're going to be keeping the car, get the color you want, don't be thinking about what it's going to look like in ten years.

Milano Red; Alabaster Silver and (imo) Vortex Blue.

don't pick up taffy white or Crystal black. white being easy to yellow if not taken care of and you'll notice every little piece of dirt on black after a damp day outside.

^ yeah actually, what he says. Life is too short to buy an unappealing color just to keep it nice in 15 years. Some cars look good in silver (the Accord will be great); I'm not sure the Fit is one of them. I mean it's Ok. All the colors are Ok. It's just not a great looking car so getting a decent color is your only hope of saving it, hehe.

I would go for white, dark grey, dark blue (purple), or maaaybe blue or red. Those last two depending how immature you want to look, I'm afraid. They're nice colors by themselves but a little loud. Black actually is Ok but you'll be cleaning it twice a week and boiling your AC fluid in the summer.

And do not get blue raspberry unless you are a girl. A girly girl.

I appreciate the opinions.

I have owned maroon, black, white, and charcoal Hondas. I leased for a while do I never had them long enough to change the windshield wipers, much less to see how the paint aged.

My experience with Honda paint has been good except for my 82 Accord but it was 18 years old when I had it.

I have had 4 white cars. My experience with white is that it cleans up easy, you don't have to dry since water spots don't show, and white hides chips and scratches. I am curious if after some time it might yellow.

The colors I like on the fit are:
Red : I agree, it is a bit racy but it sure looks good!
White: I am leaning towards this as I like it and have had good experiences with. The red is better looking but the benifit of not having to do so much drying appeals to me. The Fit Sport looks really good in white with some dark tinted windows
Blue: this looks fantastic but it has to be almost as hard to clean and keep water spots off of as black.

Either way, I am enjoying trying to decide. Keep the opinions coming and if anybody has an example or better yet, a picture of a high mileage Fit with either good or bad paint I would love to see it.

It also may depend when exactly you want to buy it and what the dealership may have available.

I know the MT equipped Fits were pretty scarce and it became a choice of 2 colors for me.

I noticed that. I was checking the inventory on line of all the Honda dealerships in the Dallas area and every dealership carried nothing but A/T's. Finally I found a dealership who had 10 M/T Sports. I don't know why he had so many and the others only had Autos. Weird.

I'm not in a rush though. If they don't have what I want when the time comes I will wait.

In the history of auto paint, red always oxidizes, dulls and fades more quickly and more seriously than any other color. Red looks good on Fits, but not for as long as white.

White always lasts the longest. The problem with silver is that it really isnt a color, just aluminum flakes in clear. That means less UV protection than with colors. White has pigment to protect the resin, but also reflects much of the light. Black absorbs heat and is hardest to keep clean and shows scratches/flaws.

Whatever you do, don't get black. I didn't want any other color so I got it, but the paint quality is poor and it will show every scratch. I would be more mad if I was anal about paint.

I'd get silver or white for longevity's sake.

My last car was black 2005 Corolla S even though I would wax it often over time scratches and chips were very noticeable. My wife's car was white which she got at the same time that I got my Corolla and the color seem to hold up much better. The car still look great after 5 years.

My Fit is red not my first choice but only one within 200 miles at the time with a manual transmission. I am hoping that it does not fade one of the reasons I never brought a red car in the past.

Talking White is my Favorite

My favorite color for a car is white. Stays cool in direct sun. (May save some gas as the AC does not have to work as hard?) Easy to match if a touch up is needed. Visible in low light conditions. Scratches are almost invisible. Fading to a lighter shade is never an issue.

Had two black cars when I was younger. Absolutely stunning when clean and detailed. Even had a policeman complement me at a road block / license check. But the time and effort is more than I care for now.

IMHO – red looks good but fades, silver looks like unfinished metal. Like yellow a lot, but many don’t, and I would like to keep a good resale value.

For me, it is the path of least resistance.

1) silver keep it waxed really any color if it is waxed regularly
2) Black it's the best color when new but looks bad w/ micro scratches
2) White reflects the most so dings and small dents are less visible.

But I like BOM it was my fav kolor when i got my FiT 2008

after 4 years:

Thanks for all the input guys!

I am going to go with white. It looks awesome with dark tint and the new wheels on the sport. I also like not having to dry it after washing it.

Don't do white, for some odd reason my white has no shine. I think Honda did a single stage paint job, so the doesn't hold up with weather to go.

White does look amazing, but silver I think will last longer, IMO.
