Purchasing Questions - New 2013 vs New 2012 vs Used Under Warranty?

Hey - Quick Question - In the market for a white or raspberry blue Fit Sport (Auto or Manual)

I noticed the depreciation and used pricing is not very attractive.
New 2013 - $18.3k - 18.8k around there
New 2012 - The honda website only takes $100 off.. wow?
Used 2011-2012 seems only to take $1-2k off.

So my question is am I crazy - or does it not deprecate at all under warranty?
If I do go buying the new route, I am centrally located and can buy from almost any dealer in the US - and am looking for the best deal. Is the route of coming up with a really low but do-able price and faxing several dealers a route to take ? What would you guys suggest for me? Thanks!

The Fit seems to depreciate a lot slower than most of the other cars on the road. That and the extra sound insulation they started putting in the 2012 models is why I bought a new 2012 last year instead of looking at used ones. Some people say that they don't think the sound proofing makes a difference, but I test drove a 2009 Sport Auto and my 2012 Sport Auto and I could tell a noticeable difference in the sound level on the interstate. My vote would be buy a new one.

Buy a new one the resale values seem to maintain based on supply and demand. However, if you were to trade the car in the 2012 would receive a lower allowance then the 2013. I brought my 2012 in June and about two months later the 2013s arrived my 2012 has a trade in value of $14k.

Ah - I do not have any fit right now - and there seems to be no difference in the 2012 to 2013 - and 2014 looks not to be too different (other then maybe being made in Mexico?)

There are not many 2012 on the lots - and low discounts for even getting it over a 2013 (correct me if I am wrong)

I am looking at this one - 2013 Honda Fit for sale in Denton TX JHMGE8H59DC027876

what is a realistic price to pay for it though?

The real difference between 2012 and 2013 is only the year. The 2014 will be pretty much the same. The Mexican built Fit is most likely going to be a 2015 model year.

Caradvice.com quotes Mr. John Mendel, Executive Vice President of Honda America saying that, “We’re going to launch this 2015 Fit (Jazz) in the spring of 2014 (season stretches from March-May 2014), which is going to build on the momentum we’ve already created in the small car segment.”

There is not a big markup on the Fit that advertised price is around dealer price with transportation included no harm in offering another $800 off that price.

I also noticed used 2012 models are not too much cheaper than a new one. So new might be the way to go and not sure if it's worth while to wait for 2014 come may be August?

Just bought one yesterday.
- MSRP 17000
- Final with PDI, extended warranties, rust..., paint..., seat..., tax, interest(,addit: winter tires and rims, side molding, and luggage cover thing too):
@ 25000

saw a 2010 japanese made one with AT for 10000 (plus interest which they say is huge on used cars.)

Decision is yours.

ps: This FIT is a blast

but you're up in Canada?

One thing that pisses me about texas dealers is that they include their own little 'service warranty' like door dings and stuff for $600 - tint $500 - PINstripe (Ugliest thing ever) for $500 - so you're at $1600 over msrp+ everything before you get to negotiate. it is a win win for them, since they claim to take off even $500-$1500 - they are still up on you for paying $20 for a stencil for the paint - and $80 for the tint ! Hard to get away from this.

If anyone can chime in - this is my first new car purchase ever - and dont want to get screwed - just want to get a nice fit at the lowest price possible PM me if anyone can help! thx

Sorry, mine is LX, you want sport price.
add about another 2000 plus tax on what i said above.

to take it from 4 year to 8 year warranty, add another 2000 plus tax again.

and pretty sure the 2010 i mentioned was LX too.
woops.

GL!

You can probably get a '13 Sport w/ an automatic for $18k. If the car has add-ons like pinstripes you don't want, have then try to find you a car without one. If they're not willing to do that, tell them thanks and find another dealer.

I looked at truecar.com and could've bought a '13 MT Sport for $17,1xx (without TTL) if they could've found one. Ended up paying $15,7xx for a '13 MT Base. They told me that every car they sell comes with an extra charge paint protection plan and I told them I wasn't interested - they still sold me the car of course.

awesome - thank you

how did you get around not paying for the lame dealer options?
What about when they charge you $120-130 for their documentation fees?

I am looking at getting one for $18k even without TTL - just asking the forums how to do that successfully buying in my state (Texas) or out of state too!

Just tell them you don't want their options and that if they're not willing to sell you a car without them you'll go elsewhere. Since you're looking at automatics there should be plenty around.

I was stuck paying the $199 "doc fee" - none of the local dealers will budge on it, and some will even say it's pure profit.

Fits are in high demand. New ones msrp aren't much above dealers invoice. Those two factors probably mean they are not going to negotiate much. But good luck.

I'm not sure if this would be apples to apples since I'm in Alabama, but I paid $19,200 out the door for my 2012 Fit Sport Auto last year and that was after haggling with them for a few hours. I believe the price for just the car before taxes, tag, etc. was right at $18,500. So, it sounds like you have yourself a decent price there. Like the other guys said, there just doesn't seem to be much wiggle room between sticker price and what you can actually get one of these for.

WOW hahaha. Wtf why are they charging a convenience fee!? What does that even mean? And $50 f*#%ing dollars for nitrogen tires?! 16.50 notary?!?! Dude offer msrp (maybe offer $150 for all that stuff if you really want the car) or walk away. Never be afraid to walk away. I'd also check on some of those add ons. Like the LA compliance fee? Is that like part of the reg process? Doesn't honda include wheel locks on the sport? Good luck man. Like I said fits are in high demand but there's no reason you can't get one for near msrp.
