mt shift know is more forward ++

(Title should read: ...shift knob...)
Hey,

My problem:
The steering tilt/telescope control is in bad place, so I have seat further back.
This leaves shift knob a little forward but, I just found that if you turn it 180, it now points more backwards and less forwards, so it's easier to grasp.

I bought a replacement one that has a large point toward front yet, either way I want it a little further back.

Some options:
1) Single bend shifter but, I'm not into related work for that mod just yet.
2) Double bend but, same prob.

What I'd like:
1-1/2" of straight to go over original knob threading, 30 degree max angle, then another 1" or bit more to thread the new knob onto.
- I think that will be just enough to make it a sweet shifter. :D

Any ideas?
thanks!

Sounds like you need something like this.

JTC Customs - JTC Customs Extender Kit

I believe you could also buy whatever individual pieces you need to make it work the way you want it.

^ I thought they stopped making those, thank you for posting link :thumbups:

FitStir 04-05-2013 01:22 PM

^ You put me on to that link... https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1068066

:thumbups: Thank you for posting the link first...

I think they re-did their website.... I know a little while back when I was going to order the small angled extender the site/order procedure was down.... I think they're still making them.

Wanderer. 04-05-2013 01:38 PM

Ah yes! I tried ordering one some time ago and it always said out of stock.

Looks like I will be ordering one this month, another piece of the puzzle...

x_25 04-05-2013 02:10 PM

So i'm not the only one who thinks the shifter is about 1.5" too far forward. Good to know!

Gra-fit-e 04-05-2013 05:02 PM

Their website email is not working.
I sent an email to their email addy.

if that don't work, I'm sure I can find someone around here to thread and bend and annodize a bar.(so much easier when someone is in the habit of doing it though.)

Gra-fit-e 04-05-2013 05:15 PM

Wow, almost an instant reply to my email.
Order is being perused as we speak, I imagine.

The only thing you have to make sure is that the threads are for Honda... Should be M10x1.5 :hyper: :vtec:

Good to know they're back up... will be ordering soon.

Wanderer. 04-05-2013 06:43 PM

All of the JTC stuff on the website is Honda oriented and is the proper thread pitch.

I would not get just the bent part of the extension, most countersunk knobs won't fit right because the bend is too short. Get one of the straight pieces as well as the bend, or just spend the extra $10 and get all three pieces.

I want that 600g shift knob they have too

Gra-fit-e 04-05-2013 07:23 PM

yup, they have all M10x1.5 by look of it, thanks.

Thanks for tip, I'll get the 3 piece. I'll just have to buy another Honda in 15 years so the thread is the same. :rotfl:

about the knob, I've been warned about metal knobs and hot summers.
a solid metal knob will take a long long time to cool down.

While installing my h-fit short shift kit and center armrest, I removed the shifter and saw that it has about a 15 degree bend 2 inches above the pivot. I put mine in a hydraulic press and straigthtened it out moving the shift knob back about 1.5 inches. Now I can put it in 5th without lifting my right shoulder off the seat back. The hardest part is wrestling the shifter out of the housing. Neutral is now where 4th gear used to be.

Gra-fit-e 04-05-2013 07:50 PM

This email just in from JTC:

I talked with Tommy and he assured me that all Hondas from '83 and up now use the M10x1.5 thread. We've got plenty in stock, and shipping to east Canada is not a problem. So feel free to order, and we'll get it out as soon as possible. We definitely appreciate your business!

Thanks,
Matthew

I love good news.
If I wasn't working all weekend, I'd go out now for a little :vtec:

This is the #2 reason why I want this, all the other gears are perfect for me and I can shift with my wrist, it's only 5th I have to lean forward for. That's good thinking to bend it a little :thumbups:

I am not as adventurous as you with a press.

Gra-fit-e 04-05-2013 08:37 PM

Part 1: Done.
The 3 pieces for 45 + shipping = 60 -> cad = 62.xx$ has been ordered.
- I even had to become a paypal'er, grrr. Oh well  to the future.

Just hope I receive before the 45 day paypal-can-intervene dead line; but I don't think I'll need that. :thumbups:

:vtec:

ps: It's 3rd gear I hate. I always need it. I don't mind moving for 5th, cause it means I'll be sitting back and cruising for a bit. :D
