There are a BUNCH of threads on this try searching Octane. And yes they do run better with premium fuel because the timing gets adjusted with more advance giving more power. BUT you will get an opinion from EVERYBODY on this subject yes and no because everybody buys fuel and they think they know what is going on.

I have run premium fuel and regular and I like the preium better price is obviously higher but with our small tanks we are maybe paying another 3.00at most

Octane thread?

What grade fuel (87, 89, 91, 93)?
87, 91 if i'm feeling adventurous
What are your mods (CAI,CB,AB,UDP,Turbo...)?
K&N Drop in filter
How is your car tuned (Hondata, SAFC...)?
How Honda gave it to me. (no other option for GE unless standalone right now)
Dyno results (HP/FTLBS)?
Don't know or care.

Let me summarize the arguments to save everyone some time.

1. Honda recommends regular and they know what they're doing. If the car would get better mileage with premium they'd mention it.

And if you disagree you're an idiot.

2. It's a high-compression engine that benefits from higher-octane fuel, and Honda doesn't mention this because it's an economy car. My (whatever) gauge shows different timing and other characteristics so that proves it. And it feels faster, and I get better mileage with premium.

And if you disagree with me you're an idiot.

3. The numbers on your gauge may be different but that doesn't prove more power or better mileage, and when I did some calculations based on your numbers the slightly better mileage doesn't save you any money because premium is 10% more expensive. So you're an idiot and so is everyone else.

Did I leave anybody out?

^^^^ nope you just about covered everybody lol

I run 87 and occasionally 89 and when prices drop here in Socal I may get a tank of 91
I drive the piss out of my Fit and notice no difference in performance or mpg using 87 or higher grades.

Gas prices here in California are all over the place and can be as much as $1.00 difference in some areas.I've run a couple tanks of Shell 89 recently and think I'll stick to that for the rest of the summer.

I like the fact that I can run 87 all the time if I want because in some places that may be all you can get.

86, really? Where is THAT? I actually would worry a little about running below 87. I'm not sure the Japanese designers have heard of a place where octane falls below 87.

I run high octane when possible. I don't do this every time - if I'm going on a long trip I view this as pissing money away - but I like to do it every so often because I believe it has more detergents that take care of the engine (in my case, the engine is not run that often).

I think if you attribute any additional "zippiness" to using premium fuel, you're over-optimistic about the sensitivity of your butt dyno. I think that just like every other car ever made that says in the owner's manual that it will run just as well on 87 octane as on 93 ... it will do just that. You're probably the type of person who thinks they magically feel better after taking a multivitamin. You might as well believe you can run faster if you buy sneakers with the picture of a sports celebrity on it. Or that Beats By Dr Dre headphones sound better than AudioTechnica, instead of just being a branding effort to part you from your money.

Or you could show me a dyno sheet or timed 0-60 runs. I haven't seen that, ever.

I perceive in my MPG records a very very slight uptick in fuel economy by using premium fuel. But it is not enough for me to reject other confounding factors and state that as a confident observation. The winter-summer fuel mix, for example, makes far more of a difference; as does AC use or even variation in quality between service stations.

There are some cars that state upfront that they'll give more HP using high octane fuel. The Fit is not one of those. It it possible the Fit is an exception? Well .. it's possible .. sure .. I don't think very likely.

Big doses of B12 have had a very noticeable positive effect on my elderly mother.

But she seems to run the same on 87 or 93 octane.

Guess you missed all the posts from people with "scan gauge" that report that the ignition timing is in increased while using high test.

When I take vitamin C I'm sure a test would show more vitamin C in my blood but it doesn't make me run faster.

The question isn't whether the engine numbers are different (timing, mixture, etc.) but whether there's a significant increase in economy, power, etc.
