My Fit is incredible...

I just returned from a 700 mile round trip weekend getaway with my wife to Bar Harbor, ME. Together my wife and I weigh just under 400 lbs and were carrying ~100 lbs worth of luggage and coolers with an average speed of 75mph (with times at over 80mph). It was 95% super slab but managed 44mpg on the way up and 41mpg on the return trip. Heck, these numbers will rival most motorcycles....except mine of course. I hit 61mpg (once) on it.

Hahaha! Nice.

Yeah the Fit's are great on gas. A couple days ago I drove 300 Kms for work and only used roughly 1/2 a tank - 2.5/4 of a tank.

Sounds kind of high for those speeds. Is yours a manual or an auto?

I would estimate around 35 mpg at 70+mph, let alone 75.

yep, I'm not buying it. My Corolla Vibe 1.8 liter engine gets better gas mileage than my 1.5 liter Fit (33mpg versus 29mpg in suburban driving). I once (driving alone) did an all highway trip in my Vibe and drove 55mph the entire way and got 43 mpg. When I go 70+ mph, the mileage goes WAY down. There is no way I believe you got those numbers with a full load going over 70 miles per hour.

Same here....sad to say fuel economy shouldnt be the primary issue when buying this car since a focus or an elantra (bigger) both get better mileage....and no I'm not just relying on EPA numbers....I've rented the Elantra for a month (29mpg) and the focus for 2 weeks (32mpg) and drove both as hard if not harder (bigger engine outputs).

My fit gets between 25-27mpg in comparison. A family member has a Nissan Rogue (shitty build quality and poor design) which has 180hp and a cvt and gets 24mpg.... but its handling is suspect! I feel rollovers in that car.

It always mystifies me how you all get 40+ mpg in this car!

I drive a turbo fit and I get a consistent 30mpg combined, on the highway I got about 38mpg and that was with a few pulls up to 110 mph. I'm not sure why you guys don't get better mpg and I don't drive slow most of the time.

I did a similar trip with a roof rack and luggage one way trip straight 1,500 miles in 24 hours was wishing for higher mileage but ended up around 29 mpg reducing my overall mpg to 31 mpg. But, recently it has been climbing back up now at 32.2 mpg. Still I really do not see anything out there that interest me enough to replace my Fit.

If you're driving an 09, if you rely on the avg mpg calc the car does, you did get it reflashed to correct the 10-15% over actual mpg error, right?

Maybe you had favorable tail-winds both ways...

The Fit amazes me sometimes. Yesterday, I got 600km to a full tank of a gas. Usually I only get 500, but this time 600. I rode a little, okay a lot into the gas light. But never have I been so lucky to get 600km. Boy I sure love my Fit.

I've got an eye on the new V60R Wagon that's coming out next year. I'm going to test it out and who knows maybe the Fit will have a new friend.

I got my best mileage EVER above 40 for the first time on a 900 KM trip with a cruising speed of 85-90 mph.

Colder than normal and had the A/C off some of the time where normally it's on 100% of the time. BIG difference.

Wind plays a major role in my mpg. Even w car loaded and full cargo carrier,
if I have a tail wind I am around 42-43mpg @70mph.

Do that same ride with a head wind, and I am down to 38-39.
It isn't the most aero dynamic car.

I've had my '07 Fit for about 4 months (and already over 10,000 miles) and have never gotten less than 33.6 MPG. I average 36 and the best I ever got was 39.3, I know if I can keep it to 70 MPH on the freeway I can get over 40, but I'm just too impatient for that LOL

My 2013 with two adults + two kids averaged 5.7 L/100km or roughly 41 mpg. This on a 3500km road trip through Northern Washington state and the Canadian rockies...so lots of varied terrain, and enough mileage to average out any anomalies.

5.7/100 kms is nice to see. I do a fair amount of highway and I'm at 6.2/100 km.
Only on my second tank of gas (1000 kms approx), so I'm hoping to see a bit on an improvement as break in happens.
Having said that, it's hard to resist giving it a bit or a work out in the city. I'm still getting used to how quickly it's gets up there in rpm. trying to keep it mostly below 3000 rpm.
Mostly.....

Fred1975 my exact thoughts. Once I get a better set of tires on the Fit I think my fuel efficiency will start to drop, if you catch my drift

It's nice to know the engine is thrifty when you need it

Most people have found by the time you get to 5,000 you will be getting your best mileage just from the car being broken in.

I don't believe that an auto with the AC on, at 70+ mph with a full load could ever break 40 mpg.
