WOW so anyone who wants a roof rack is a fool. Are you one of those fat ass coach potatoes? Kayaker, Canoes, Bike users are all fools then? What a statement. Maybe I should buy a big gas pig car. That way when most of my driving is without a kayak or bike on my roof I can suck up tons of fuel. All I can say is WOW what a foolish statement. My gas mileage with kayak on roof only drops about 2 or 3 mpg. Hardly ruining the planet.

Mike you would be better off calling power boaters names as they use way way more fuel than a kayaker does.

Your way better of buying new in my opinion so I would never consider a used anything car. If someone trades in a 1 year old car somthing is up with it.

I called Thule and Yakima

My last car was a 2014 Ford Fiesta SE, went through 2 clutches in 20k miles on an automatic. So as long as you get a manual, you should be fine. Although, I don't know if that roof can support that much weight either.

Edit: I cannot find anything online about a roof rack not going on the Fit, when I emailed Thule, They said a fit kit would likely come out this summer.
Yakima told me flat out the cars roof is to weak to support any rack, called today.Yakima does make a roof rack for all the older Fit cars.

Thule being a foreign company couldn't tell me for sure if they will have a kit for it or not. I was told to email them and they would forward it to engineering for a response. So I did waiting for a response.

Yes.

And no. I'm actually very thin/fit. Work out four times a week.

Bikes can be put on a trunk/rear rack.

Thanks for finding out the current news on this. We have a '13 and '15. I think the '13 will be the roof carrying car. I wish Yakima made a permanent rail that fit their Rail Grab hardware. I have a Q Tower system and Rail Grab system. At least the Bomber Bars are interchangeable.

2015 Fit according to both Thule and Yakima wont take any clip on roof rack at ALL. I saw the thread on Inno making a roof rack but it can only take around 90 lbs. I did see Thule has a bolt on rail that you can then install Thule pads and the cross bars. BUT its not specific to the Fit. I wonder if the roof metal is so thin I kinda doubt the bolt on rail would be all that secure. PLUS I don't want to drill wholes into a brand new car roof.

So the Fit is RUINED for me. I will miss the magic seat. Thinking maybe a Ford Fiesta but not sure if Ford is still Fix or Repair Daily kinda car?? I just dont trust american cars any more. I use to work as a mechanic in the 80's through early 90's at Chevy dealer so I know first hand how they made junk. At least back then.

Here is a picture of my 2008 Fit with my 18 foot kayak on it::
Seeing your picture reminds me of our previous 2008 Milano
Red Fit, that we replaced with the PBP 2015 version, for my oldest Daughter to take to school last year. You might want to consider the upcoming Honda HR-V, which is also built on the Fit platform, due anyday now. My understanding is you can use a roof rack , which makes it like a Fit on Steroids. It sits about 4" higher off the ground than the Fit, while maintaining that Magic Seat you mentioned. It is positioned by Honda as being between the Fit and the CR-V in size. Here is a link to the HR-V forum where you should be able to confirm the roof rack option:

I just got an email from Thule about the 2015 Fit. Iam told the engineering dept. in Sweden is working on the Fit now testing it to see if they will make a rack for it or not. Nothing has been decided as of now. But Yakima has said no for sure. So not a good sign.

Iam not getting a car quite yet, right now in the deciding part on what to buy. Money is a concern of course. I think the new HR-V is going to be in the low twenties which puts it out of what I want to spend. Have to see what it sells for but it has to be at least 3 or 4 grand more than a Fit. Plus its gas mileage will have to suffer too.But thanks for the info.

If their biggest competitor said no, I'd say it looks good: Thule isn't looking at fighting for maybe half of the Fit roofrack market any more. They're looking at all the Fit market coming to them.

Well I hope your right. It would be great if I can just get a new kit and reuse my rack again. I can do this if I go with a Fiesta or Versa. Guess I will wait and see. No big hurry here. But it seems like Thule has been dragging its feet to get an answer. Maybe Iam a little to impatient. Inno has a rack but they have a low weight limit which iam hoping Thule can do at least 120 lbs. I don't often have 2 kayaks on the roof but it would be nice to be able too. Usually just have one on the roof any were from 45lbs to 60 lbs. My 16 foot plastic kayak is heavier than my 18 foot fiberglass one.

Bought a Thule rack last week and totaled my 2011 Fit Monday. Was thinking of a new EX until I read this. I wonder if the 2008 - 2013 fit kit fits, have many people blindly just put it on, and what the results have been. I'm a chicken, but if it is working for others without ill effect, I might give it a try.

My concern is if something bad did happen, no one can look to Yakima or Thule if there was a defect in the hardware or instructions.

That's why people like Yakima and Thule. They've been around a long time and have reputations for excellent products. People aren't afraid to buy from them for practical reasons, not simply legal ones.

I can't help imagining this car is an overloaded mule about to fall down on his shaky knees
But the thing is Fit's a strong decent mule, I'd trust him

If the manufacturers think they can profit the excuses will vanish.

Well right now Yakima is for sure a no go according to Yakima. Thule is a maybe but when it does come time to buy a new car I was thinking in the next few months and if Thule has no rack by then the Fit is not going to be my replacement car. The car is uselss for me if I cant haul my kayaks. Went kayaking yesterday evening.

Here is a group of us in a pool from Tuesday night. Iam in the big yellow kayak on right

I, too, am very leery of domestic cars. Honda, Toyota and Subaru appear to be the most reliable brands on the road from the different ratings sources I watch. Hopefully one of those will fit your needs if Thule doesn't come through.

Good job with the quality of mounting your kayak. A lot of people wouldn't dot their i's or cross their t's so well. Here in Alaska there are many, many roof racks carrying all sorts of things. If it's not on a Subaru (unofficial state car) then it's on some sort of Gigantor vehicle that is usually a daily-driver. Ouch.

Sounds like you're just butthurt because you didnt do enough initial research selecting the right car. But yeah, don't buy another Fit or do. Who cares.
