Fit Quality?!

My brother who is a mechanic just heard some Honda techs bad-mouthing the fit! They say that the upholstery is falling off and the trannies are going bad. Has anyone had this problem? I've yet to see any major complaints on the forum.

My friend works at different Hondas over FL doing body work. He said that he does see a lot of Fits here and there but for normal maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations. Hes never seen one on the lift without a trans or anything.

He gets a lot for body work though. Lots of Fits are getting in accidents
The worse one hes done needed a front bumper, hood, driverside headlight and fender. A good amount are getting rear ended also.

I've been reading the forums for the 2006 Civic; also Toyota Matrix & Corolla. Seems that all are having their share of problems. I'm really disapointed that Honda has problems with the Fit and Civic. Why are companies like Honda & Toyota, which have had a rep for "bullet-proof" cars, now seeming to have poorer quality? What's going on?

I am beginning to wonder if the forums aren't full of false postings by 'haters' or, worse, paid stooges to badmouth the competition. Have there really been any documented increases in problems with Honda or Toyota? You'd think this would show up in Consumer Reports or othe auto press. We'd know more about it in the real world if quality had taken a dive. There would also be a lot more angry people here at FitFreak. There are a lot of Fits out there rolling up the miles (kms) without any problems. Mine included--love it!

Just be glad you aren't getting a new Civic. We had one in on Friday and the tech found 11 rattles just in the rear areas.
One of the bolts for the SRS unit wasn't even bolted in all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!
My only complaints for my Fit is the fog lights can't be turned on unless the headlights are on and the paint isn't the greatest on the inside of the door like at the top of the window sort of.

My Fit is doing great. No problems during 6400 miles in 3 months. Don't believe everything you read.

You realise that NO VEHICLE can do that don't you?
You have to manually rewire them to do so...fairly sure it's a legal issue.

Most domestics can. So far all the Dodges, Jeeps, and Chryslers can have the running lights and foglights only. I find that odd.....

Parts not bolted in, clips rattling. It all adds up.
I thought as well that a lot of domestics had the option to only have the fog and parking lights on.

Our Fit has been just fine so far, quality-wise. We have over 3000 miles on her so far. The only rattle we've found was probably caused by driving on washboarded roads with four people for 10 miles while on vacation... it was vibrating and bumping so hard that my butt was numb by the end of the drive!

I don't think most cars could come out of that situation without any rattles. So... I'm quite happy.

I wonder how much of a difference it makes as to where the car is made? Civics are made in the US and Fits in Japan. The complaints I read about the Civics are assembly issues, ie: right side motor mounts need to be replaced and Honda has to redesign the mount to correct a rattle noise. Then the issue of wind coming thru the drivers side window, which I can understand how annoying that would be. Plus other stuff like rattles, etc. What I've read about the Fit is mostly the paint and small stuff, not the mechanicals. Edmunds readers rate the Civic in the 9.0 range; the Corolla & Matrix in the 8.0 range (both Toyotas made in either the US or Canada). Toyota has had recalls and some of the sites like carconnection.com report that Toyota has had to take steps to repair "image damage"; ie: what the public perceives of the car. I guess a couple of the Toyota execs knew about the issues but didn't say anything; much like Mitsubishi. I was surprised that the Fit would have paint issues. Naturally, the first thing I'm gonna think is that if the paint is lousy, what else will they have problems with? It just could be bad paint like GM had some years ago, which I hope is the case. If so, repaint the cars under warrenty. If it's a case of hurry up and get the car to market, that just doesn't seem like Honda. The Fit has been out 4 years or so. The cars we get should have had the bugs worked out of them already. The best car I ever owned was my Civic Si, which I had for 13 years. So, I expect that same quality in Hondas, Civics or Fits. Sorry I'm rambling on about this, I guess I just need to vent.

i got 7,103 miles on my SSM Sport AT loveing every mile more and more....only complaint is paint chips fairly easily from small highway rocks....but not a big issue really....just need to be a lil carful.

tranny feels solid, interior has held up well (used all modes and been on 3 road trips already and no issues with interior being cheap or whatever)

Really...I sure know how to choose them then. Ford F350..couldn't do it...Chevy Silverado couldn't do it...

Then my SAAB, NISSAN, Toyota....couldn't do it either. Can't be very common...maybe only works on cars with Dealer installed foglight packages.

I think the quality is pretty darn good on our little cars regardless.

Remember folks...we're dealing w/ the lowest price point from Honda. At least USDM (I couldn't find anything cheaper, except perhaps a stripped Civic)

I'm really impressed so far w/ ours. Coming from two Mustangs (66 & 94) and then a 95 Civic, the Fit really met our expectations.

Do you think the Fit will last over 10 years with "regular" use + autocrossing?

I think the Fit will last as long as you treat it right! W/ racing or aggresive driving you can usually expect higher replacement intervals like brakes & tires of course...I would also guess that some suspension pieces may get looser 'sooner', but 10 years shouldn't be an issue...judging by the way my 95 Civic worked last month, I think you'd be fine.

I've got almost 5k miles and have had zero complaints to gripe about. No paint issues, nothing.

I plan on taking the Fit to the track a few times and don't expect any bad news to come from it. If you take care of the car, and I'm a freak with maintenance, the Fit should last 10+ years with track time included.

I think the "J" in our vin#s make a difference though.

I really dont know. I know basically all the cars at my job can run with running lights and fogs. But yes, almost every other car Ive been in the headlights must be on for the foglights to be on. Some sort of safety reason I guess?

Just like the foglights turning off when the high beams are on.

My friends RSX I had to mess with some wires to run his fogs, same with my moms tC. My dads truck can run the fogs and running lights. Its a 1990 Chevy 1500SS. My Mx6 can run the fogs with runnings. I had to jump wires for my Probe.

Pretty weird if you think about it.

Trannies huh?! Why can't Honda make an AT that works? On the V6 autos and vans Honda makes the failure rate is astronomical. Haven't had any real prob with my AT Fit though I did hear a thunk one time on a recent trip. Keep posted.
