Question Smart key: want to hide key and...

just last week bought a 2017 Fit and first time owning a car with Smart key fob and push button start/stop ignition. Here is my dilemma. In the summer I do a lot of swim training in lakes that have unsecured beaches. Can’t leave wallet or keys on beach when I swim. I used to just hide keys/wallet in car and leave the doors unlocked. But with a Fit Smart Key if I hide the key fob in the car the car can still be started by just pushing the ignition button even though the bad guy hasn’t found the key. No matter where I hide the fob the signal still lets the car be started. Any way to disable the fob while it is in the car?

It will be a little bit of trouble, but wrap the key FOB in tin foil. Or get a solid metal case for it. What comes to mind is an aluminum cigarette case if they still make them.

I use a real estate key lock box attached to a door handle. Its a combo lock box.

What about getting a copy of the emergency key (the one that slides out of the fob) and hiding that under the car somewhere? that way you could hide the fob in the car and lock it manually with the key and then hide the key.

I don't believe you can lock the car with the fob inside. There are waterproof pouches, etc. you can find at sports stores-put the fob in, wear around the neck.

If you ae going to store a spare FOB inside or near the car, you will have to store it inside an all metal box or wrap it in tin foil.

I tested it this morning. Put the fob in between the seats and was able to lock it using the emergency key. I'm sure that's by design so that if the batteries in the fob go bad you can still lock it
