Order base, get Sport?
Order base, get Sport?
Howdy,
Ordered a base Fit, says so on my buyer's order. After 4 months, car has been built, is on its way, but is Sport. Dealer says this happens, factory does this on their own, and there's nothing they can do.
What say you, buyers and dealers? Does this happen, and if so how much, or did the dealer maybe screw up and is now trying to sell me a car that is, totally coincidentally, more expensive?
Obviously don't have a lot of options here, since if I bail they won't have any trouble selling a manual Sport, but thought I'd see what everyone thought.
Thanks.

I believe this has been discussed ad nauseum on this site. Honda does not "build cars to order". They build what they build, X number of X color/model/trans, then those in turn are allocated to dealers. Depending on the dealer (I beleive Fit allocation is based on prior/current Civic sales) X dealer will get more than Y dealer.
When John Q Customer comes in and says I want X car/color, the dealer can look at its allocation and say, "ok we are due this model approx on this date (this before the car is built) and if a customer wants one of those he can put a deposit down etc. Then later the VIN is relased to dealer etc, etc.
I find it hard to believe that Honda would just randomly send them a Sport that they did not have coming. It is much more likely the dealer made an error putting your name on X car in their allocation.
