2009 Autocross: Two Tales

Well Autocross season is here, there are essentially two ways to go;

First the CSCC schedule

Date Event Location
May 2 test & tune/novice school Penhold
May 3 event #1 Penhold
May 16 event #2 Penhold
May 17 event #3 Penhold
May 30 event #4 Penhold
May 31 event #5 Penhold

June 13 event #6 **Race City
June 27 event #7 **Race City

July 4 test & tune Westerner
July 5 WCMA Regional (event #8) Westerner
July 25 event #9 **Race City

Aug. 8 event #10 Westerner
Aug. 22 event #11 **Race City

Sep. 12 event #12 Penhold
Sep. 13 event #13 Penhold
Sep. 19 event #14 Penhold
Sep. 20 event #15 Penhold
Second the SASC schedule

Date Event Location
April 12 novice school + test n tune Lethbridge Exhibition park.
April 25 Event 1 Lethbridge Exhibition park.

July 4/5 Event 2-3 Lethbridge Exhibition park.

August 8 Event 4 Lethbridge Exhibition park.
August 22 Event 5 Lethbridge Exhibition park.
I think the CSCC schedule might be a bit tough for me personally, anybody else planning to run a season?

I might run a couple events from each if they come to town but I don't think I want to do this much traveling this year .

I will also concentrate on Solo 1/SoloSpring more since it involves driving on a real track vs driving in a parking lot with cones.

SASC doesn't have a single event here planned; as for the CSCC they are still waiting on confirmation for those Race City dates.

My car doesn't have the abilitiy to do road racing, I need way more juice under the hood & my brakes will probably fade away in a couple of laps.

linky? If they do I will probably run them "for fun" not through a membership since I wouldn't attend most other events outside of Calgary

This is the info I spotted on SASC website today

I would imagine if they get it you could expect maybe 4 or 5 events here

The membership pays for itself in about 3 or 4 events compared to paying for it as a guest, it not a bad deal.

They cap each event, I think 40 max?

Is a good deal, if the Calgary venues come through I am signing up for sure. I am not crazy about driving to Lethbridge every time.

They are saying they need people to fill certain roles to go ahead with the Calgary events right now.

I think they want to run 5 events here in Calgary, if you guys have any time to volunteer it might go a long way to helping our cause.

I know I am not really planning to drive all the way out to Lethbridge, would be nice if the Calgary stuff comes through.

I am considering capping the entry to our event this year esp. in Calgary for better control of the events. Therefore volunteers with a dedicated position will always have a spot reserved for them. I think that at the very least fair to the helpers. Less people => more runs too.
Last time I volunteered I helped out with the safety tech inspections, I also spent a few minutes afterwards helping clean up the cones. Is pretty simple stuff, but it goes a long way to helping get the events setup and started, plus you get to know some of the more experienced guys while you are at it.

I am signing up for both days of the SASC one,

it is pretty steep for price, but they are having some good instructors come to Calgary to teach the course. I really want to get started off right this year.

I am sure the series I want to participate in will rape my wallet good so I can't afford both plus tires, an alignement, a new gauge cluster (like the one in my living room right now) and possibly a front lip and camber kits front and back :P
