Hawaii Evo Driving school January 19-21, 2013

Sportscar club of America Hawaii Region is sponsoring

Evo Driving School for three days January 19, 20, and 21, 2013 over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

Day one will be phase one- the basics of car control and how to autocross.
Day two will be phase two- more basics but with some extra twists
Day three will be challenge- compare your driving to an instructor- but both of you will have to deal with the lower half of your front windshield covered with tape so you will have to look and think ahead.

You must do them in order. Each day is very busy so don't plan to do anything more at night. You will need to rest.

For registration sign up-
SCCA Hawaii Region

$250 per day per person
No experience needed
Good for anyone interested in car control and performance driving

No special car needed but no top heavy cars.

The sign up has been open for about one week and half of the slots on each day are filled.

First come first served. Let me know if you have questions.

It's been two years since the last EVO school in Hawaii.
After a two year absence-

SCCA Hawaii region is again sponsoring the Evolution Driving School Phase 1, 2 and challenge courses for January 17 to 19, 2015 at Aloha Stadium lower parking lot.

see
http://evoschool.com/

Save the dates and if you enjoy learning how to drive your Fit (or other car) at it's limits on a safe flat parking lot marked with cones then come out.

This is the only regular professional performance driving course offered in the state and it only is arranged every other year.

Limited to 30 students per day.

Must take Phase 1 course in order to sign up for the Phase 2 course the next day.

Jan 17, Saturday is Phase 1
18th is Phase 2
19th MLK day is Challenge course.

You don't need a sportscar to drive and no special equiptment needed. Use a rental car if you want but your normal street car is fine as long as it isn't a tall truck, Minivan, or SUV with high center of gravity. A family sedan is fine.

The skills you learn are good for any car but it's not basic driver's ed. You will learn how to push and find the limits of either your courage to drive or the performance limits of your car.

Expect to spend the vast bulk of the day behind the wheel, there isn't really a classroom part to the course, it's hands on behind the wheel driving learning the course which is setup in the morning of the day of the event. With each Phase the course gets more complicated and tough.

The instructors are all experienced at teaching nationally for Evo school and past/present active SCCA national class drivers in Solo or ProSolo events and more.
They have driven about anything you would expect at a driving school. The Evo school only brings out their best instructors for the Hawaii events, it's a reward to them.

There is a short working lunch with pizza and drinks served. Expect to be very tired at the end of the day which closes at 5pm. Since it is held outdoors with only a few tents, wear sunblock, a hat, and some dark glasses.

You can bring your own extra drinks, but after lunch you can help yourself to the remaining drinks in the coolers.

Only drivers are allowed to attend the event, no spectators.

Tech inspection is done the morning of the event, make sure everything is securely bolted down and tires are not totally worn out. All loose items will need to be removed from the car's interior and trunk before driving on course. Just leave everything but the essentials at home.

Don't forget to save the MLK weekend dates for the Evolution driving school coming in January of 2015, see the above post for details.

If you care about driving skill then you won't want to miss this, we only have it every 2 years and who knows if Stadium authority will tear down the old stadium and take away our lower parking lot area.

Evolution Phase 1 Driving School
This program is great for anyone from seasoned veterans to complete novice, and features 24 runs with our team of National Caliber instructors.
This is the first step in autocross education where all students start. The daylong course builds students skills level via introducing new ideas to improve one's times. Students both ride and drive (using their own cars) with Evolution's trained, professional drivers (most of which are current or past National Solo Champions) to learn where they are fast and where they need to improve. Small student teacher ratio of insures quality instruction time.
Combined with race proven skills, concepts, and techniques, this course will improve the performance of all drivers on the both road and the track. Even experienced driver’s benefit from the Phase 1 course as a refresher for those things they’ve forgotten over the years or perhaps never learned. No matter what type of car you drive, the Phase 1 skills will improve your overall driving abilities.

The following is a schedule for the days event:
7:00am Site Opens
7:00am Tech Opens
8:30am Drivers Meeting
9:00am Instructed Sessions Begins
12:30pm Working Lunch
1:00pm Instructed Session Continue
4:30pm Wrap-up Meeting
Note: Two driver cars are welcome. Students will also be required to work course during part of the day.

Evolution Phase 2 Driving School
This program is great for anyone who has taken our Phase One, and is looking to take their driving to the next level. This program features 24 runs on four different course configurations, and all with our team of National Caliber instructors.
Building upon the skills learned in Phase 1, the Phase 2 Evolution Drivers School takes the driver into new areas of mental race preparation, allowing the Phase 1 skills to be applied as second nature. Various driving exercises are conducted throughout the day to improve the driver’s visual and mental imaging of the course, resulting in quicker lap times.
This course has proven itself to reinforce the importance of Phase 1 skills and transferring those skills to every autocross course you may encounter. The Phase 2 course design is not the same as used in Phase 1 and generally has higher speed sections.
The following is a schedule for the days event:
7:00am Site Opens
7:00am Tech Opens
8:30am Drivers Meeting
9:00am Instructed Sessions Begins
12:30pm Working Lunch
1:00pm Instructed Session Continue
4:30pm Wrap-up Meeting
Note: Phase 2 students must first have completed the Phase 1 Program. As in Phase 1, students use their own cars and two driver cars are welcome. As usual, students will also be required to work course during part of the day.

Evolution Test-N-Tune
The Evolution Performance Driving School with the help of the Hawaii Region of the SCCA will be holding an open Test and Tune at Aloha Stadium on Monday January 19th. This program is open to all, and will run a three heat format, with a morning and afternoon session. Each participant will be required to work one heat in both the morning and afternoon session. If you are not working, the course will be open for you to drive. (Example: Work Heat One/Run Heats 2 & 3. Both morning and afternoon)
