How I got around ALOT of the parking fees in the city, when I was driving, was to carry a folding bike in the trunk of my car. I had a Madza Protege, btw that I averaged 40 mpg in, and I always found a place to park that was free and rode to the event. One of my biggest savings on that, was being out in the Mojave Desert for SpaceX's first launch to get into orbit. They were charging the normal public $30 to park. They set it up so people couldn't park right in front of the park spaces. I rode my bike in free and went into SpaceX garage, or whatever they call it.
