I am an official coach now!!!

I posted this in my blog in my signature. I figured I would post here as well, this is off-topic and once again, I am bored. Enjoy the read!

Kris

So I did it! Sofia is a cheerleader. A verteran cheerlearder at that! She has been cheering for two years now. I am a "cheerdad". Both me and my friend Doug are "Cheerdad's" and are over 200lbs and full of tattoo's! From that unorthodox look, we are two of the ONLY father's who are active in our daughter's sport. We go to every practice and every game to provide support for what our daughters love to do.
My son is not playing football this year. So going to cheer practice leaves me with spare time which can be boring. So I actually watch the girls cheer. These girls are 7-9 or 90lbs. They are youngen's however, they come from all walks of life. They may not be as disciplined and I have noticed that. (Maybe from my military background) I have since registered with the National Youth Sports Coaching Association and I am now a CHEERLEADING COACH! What do I know about cheerleading? NOTHING! But I do know about teamwork, bonding, and discipline. I know that the sport is to be FUN. Too often, people see sports as nothing but WIN WIN WIN. I see, at their young age a time for: bonding, sportsmanship, learning and overcoming a challenge, being in an activity that promotes friendships, and even helps develop character and confidence.
So, before you say I am ***, remember that I am a FATHER! I am there for my kids. I have coached my sons baseball team a few years ago and I try to be involved as much as possible as work permits. I want to raise my kids to be good people. To have many experiences throughout their youth as so many people in Metro Miami-Dade do not get that chance. They have the benefits of me and their mother with great jobs, and with that, can involve them in the sports they choose.
So with that, I have officially announced I am a Cheerleading coach!

That's awesome man.

I am not a father, but completely understand where you're coming from. I made a very close friend in a 44 year old woman that I worked with in a previous job, and she has two younger boys (12 and 8), and they're both playing football. The older one has amazing potential, and I can see him having a major future in the sport and the younger wants nothing more than to follow in his footsteps.

Their father is basically a bum and never around, and I've become the only major male influence they have, and I'm trying to push them in the right direction by trying to give them the opportunity to experience all the things you mentioned in your post (bonding, sportsmanship, teamwork, etc.). While it's fun to watch them play (and win... they're amazing athletes), I get just as much pride watching them throw off their pads and walk off the field with a giant smile on their faces.

Kudos to you for becoming a coach of a sport your child loves.

Thanks! It's a hoot and my wife think's that I am nuts just because I am the only guy out there as a coach. But it doesn't matter! I am there for my lil girl. She likes me taking her and it is fun for both of us.

Yeah...Before I joined the military, my major was elementary education. Once I did the in class portion, I decided...NAH! Now, 10 years later, my degree is in IT but I have the freedom and time to be involved with my kids.

My daughter is actually out of town right now but, I am still going to practice and coaching! I figured I would dedicate myself to the team as well as my daughter and the rest of the coaches are really impressed. Oh well...Figured I would update.
