A Rosemark boy has apparently committed an act of tragic heroism: killing his father to save his sister.
Larry Williams was choking his 19-year-old daughter Thursday night when his 15-year-old son intervened, stabbing him in the back, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
Williams is the brother of former firefighter Frederick Williams, who shot and killed his wife, two fellow firefighters and a sheriff's deputy eight years ago today.
Frederick Williams was found not guilty by reason of insanity and returned to a secure state mental hospital.
Larry Williams was killed just before 8p.m. at the family's home, 9110 McCreight.
The two-year-old house is on two acres in the Partridge Ridge subdivision, near the intersection of Brunswick and Mudville roads.
The 50-year-old Williams and his daughter had been arguing when Williams began choking her, family members told investigators.
The boy tried to stop the attack, and when Williams continued, the boy stabbed him with a kitchen knife.
Deputies found Williams' body in the living room.
Relatives told investigators that Williams had also choked his daughter three weeks ago, but they did not report the attack then.
A Shelby County grand jury will review the circumstances of the stabbing, but the Sheriff's Department does not anticipate charging the boy.
"Investigators believe Williams' son acted to protect his sister and other family members," the release states.
Williams was employed at Cummins Diesel Recon on Pershing in Binghamton.
He was charged with DUI in 1989 and 1990.
