How much does Best Buy pay for a television?

So, I've been searching everywhere and I can't find any information on it. How much does Best Buy mark up their televisions? For example, if a 46" Samsung 1080p 120hz flat panel LCD is $1699, how much does Best Buy make on that?

its always different for things. i dont know about televisions, but with guitars, its safe to say the store pays half of hte msrp. so, you arent getting a good deal until you are paying less than half of the msrp

There's plenty of online deals. Amazon for one, usually free shipping and no tax in most states.

Margins are different for different items, as previously stated. However, as a (soon to be former) sales rep for a lab supply manufacturer, you can assume anywhere from 30% on the low-end to 50-60% on the high-end. For example, I can sell one of my products at 50% off list, and still be at about 50% margin.

As someone mentioned earlier, check amazon.com. A year ago my wife and I set out to buy a new TV, similar to what you wanted. Our check was denied because it was from a money market account. We went to amazon, found the same exact items we wanted, and saved about $1100. Granted, we did not get the instant gratification, but to save that kind of money was worth it.

I don't know what the markup is, but I would recommend waiting a few months for a Samsung. I work in transportation and ship for Samsung. They plan on ramping up their TV production quantity and lowering prices to match/beat cheaper competition beginning in October.

As a forme Best buy employee I can tell you that flat pnel TV's have the smallest mark-ups of any item in the store averaging only around 10% mark-up. The wiring and accessories such as wall-moount brackets, cabling and such are around 300-500% mark-up.

I dont think they buy just one. They buy the products in bulk, that gives them the savings and they do their mark up.
