Aurora

Alright. Here they are. My aurora pictures. We got to Mile 162 on the Parks Highway around 10:45 last night and were welcomed by Quadrantids meteor shower. We set up the camera and waited. Around midnight, when checking the exposure of a constellation picture, I noticed the horizon in the photo was green. The aurora started so faint we couldn't even see it. That only lasted a few minutes, as soon the entire sky over us was a soft green. Then out of no where, the display exploded into activity and lasted about an hour. I wasn't able to capture any meteors on film, but that would have only been icing on the cake. The temperature was around -50 while we were out there.

Location ~ 63.06N 149.55W

For you photo people, all pics were taken in RAW format with 30 second exposures at f/3.8 ISO 400 with a Sigma 28-105mm manual focus lens at 28mm on a Nikon D40, no photo editing has been done.

Thanks for sharing--

What amazing pictures. You guys didn't even look cold. Appreciate the info about exposure, too.

I guess there's no limit to where a Fit can take you.
Cheers!

so sick dude, almost looks alien-ish, kinda scary actually. It reminds me of being in the middle of the ocean how you can see all the stars...I wanna check that out! You're a lucky dude, and good use of the magic seats lol ;P
