They are the same, but it's still $71. The blogger needs to stop smokin pot.
If it was .71c as a total charge instead of $71, then the rate per kilobyte would have been .0000197 (.00002 rounded up).

You can look at this many ways. .2 cents is twenty cents.
(one dollar)$1.00 x .002 is 2/1000's which is 20% of a penny therefore not .2cents - The blogger can twist anyway he wants, but he is incorrect.

.002 is 2/1000's

Ex: .634 6=tenths, 3=hundreths, 4=thousandths

Decimals: Tenths and Hundredths - - kwizNET Math/Science/English Homeschool/Afterschool/Tutoring Lessons/Worksheets/Quizzes/Trivia
Thousandths

Can't think of any other examples or ways to put it.

wow [shakes my head] you dont even need to know conversions, its simple fraction, a penny is a fraction of a dollar, as is, $.002 is a fraction within a single dollar, where as .002 cents is a fraction of a penny within a dollar. and the sad part is, its not ONE guy that messed up, its TWO!!! TWO!!! do they work side by side or some shit?!?!! wow... (-.-) and here i am sitting next to a shity DSL modem form verizon -.- i was listening to the guy's frustration and thats what i was laughing at heh sad part though, "im going to post this recording on my blog" -.- oh lawd...

I know what that is. A dollar is a whole unit of 1.
A penny is .01 cents or .01 dollars; doesn't matter it's the same.
.02 is two cents, .02 dollars, same thing because that's the intention
.002 is two thousandths of a dollar which is also 20% of a penny (.01).
Take a penny and times it by 20% (.01 x .2). I am the only one breaking this down into a thought,
a discussion. Verizon was charging this guy the same way.

The way the verizon c.s. rep is wording it, he is twisting it into:
.00002 (.002 cents is .01 x .002) x 35893kb =.71 cents
Verizon's intentions are to charge him .002 x 35893 = $71.79

hmmmm, doesn't seem write because why would .01 of a dollar and .01 of a penny be the same, a penny is .01 of a dollar so it shouldn't be .01 cents....
