want to buy in CA and drive to IN--help!

Here are the questions
We want to buy a Honda in California in May. We are currently living in Hawaii (transitioning out of the military) moving back to Indiana after buying said car from California. My worries are about;
Sales tax- pay California’s at 8.75? Pay Indiana’s tax at the California dealership? (one dealership told me they cant do it) OR pay nothing until getting to Indiana and pay 7%? Is there any worry about Indiana trying to make us pay it twice?
Registration- I just need to get to Indiana legally where I will register the car. The dealer I spoke with told me cali doesn’t have temp registration and gave me some speal about driving to reno to officially transfer the car to me?! He also said this would make it so we didn’t have to pay the sales tax? I found this site: http://www.mini2.com/forum/dealership-feedback/87557-sales-tax-question-out-state-buyer.html and am hoping it’s the answer to my problems!
Any advice or prior experience would be very helpful!

I just bought my Fit in Ohio this week and I live in Indiana. I paid 7% tax to the dealer. Due to their agreement with Indiana, they keep 6% of that and send a check for 1% to us with the title paperwork. We then have to take the check and title paperwork to the BMV to get it plated. The BMV send the check for taxes to the state.

The last time we caught cars in Ohio, they didn't collect any sales tax. We paid them the total minus tax and then we had to pay all the tax to the BMV when we plated it.

They have a new agreement with Indiana now.
