Newest Lens: 400mm F/6.3
Newest Lens: 400mm F/6.3
I thought I would share my newest lens with you guys.
It is a Vivitar 400mm f/6.3 telephoto lens. This thing is a beast. I am having to learn basic photography all over again. Very trial and error. I have to run my D50 on full manual and I have to set the f/stop and shutter time myself on the lens.
I can't use the on board computer to do anything. I also have to focus it manually, which it is quite difficult to see if it is perfectly in focus through the view finder. I also have to set my flash manually as well. The first two shots I took with my 18-55mm AF-S lens, on auto everything, flash on TTL, manual ISO 400.
So here is the setting (taken at 18mm, the den is about 27'x30'):

Here is the lens mounted to the tripod:

The following shots were take on the tripod using the remote. My SB800 flash unit was set to manual, 20+meters, 105+mm with no diffuser. Basically max power, max distance. And it was kept at this setting for all three photos. The focus is a framed photo of my grandmother on top of the piano.
Here I am f/22 @ 1/500 sec

Here is f/6.3 @ 1/500 sec

And here is f/22 @ 6" sec

Sid,
Isn't your "newest" lens from the mid to late seventies?
I think they offered it in a manual diaphragm "T" mount, which appears to be a Nikon mount in your photo. There was also a "T-4" semi-auto version, as I recall. Gotta love big glass!
edit; On second look, yours appears to be the T-4 version.
