Happy Fathers Day to all the dads!!!
Happy Fathers Day to all the dads!!!
hope your day is especially enjoyable.
Its days like today I'm reminded of the many special moments I've shared with my dad. My dad worked nights most of the time when I was very young so weekends was generally the only time I would see him. When I was very young, he'd ride me around loafing in his car on weekend afternoons, just he & I, maybe grabbing a hotdog at SneakyPetes or whatever. He'd let me be a pest & put hair ribbons and baretts all in his hair while he napped on the sofa, being the good sport he is (and yes I'm a girl). We've since laughed over the little moments like the time when I parked my bicycle right behind his car and he backed over it & broke the back wheel, and he wanted to chew me out for putting it there, but couldn't. Or for not getting too awfully mad when I ran onto a piece of sheetrock he had laid out & put a big hole in it while he was trying to cut it, on one of his many remodeling jobs he & my Mom undertook. After sternly reprimanding me, I made a pretty bold & smartass comment (I was a bit cheeky) in my excuse for doing it, and he said later to my Mom it was all he could do to keep from laughing at what I'd said. And then teaching me how to mow the lawn on Saturdays and giving me the honor of driving his new lawn tractor. At least I felt that way. I later discovered it was one way to get me to do a chore.
And then there was the teaching me how to drive a five speed moments, especially the parallel parking part. And it was on his old Honda, btw. Oh, so many moments. Over the years, as I grew up I've come to appreciate how much he was really there for me and still is.
Anyway, for all those of you who are fathers or will one day be...I hope all of you realize what a special part you play in your kids lives and all those 'little' moments that at the time may not mean much, but one day...they'll mean a lot. Especially on days like today.
