Ordering my camera today. G10 TIME!
Ordering my camera today. G10 TIME!
So I finally decided that I would be getting a Canon G10. I'm not ready to jump into a DSLR but I want a camera that can somewhat function like on. I don't plan on going above ISO 400. I've ordered an 8GB SDHC III card and reader.
I think I need to order an extra battery too.
Going to order from bhphotovideo.com.
Probably with a 2 year warranty.
Any other suggestions?
Any other G10 users out there?

I've got one -- I carry it when I'm not in the mood to lug my D3 around, like family outings, etc. where I just want snaps or just don't need what the D3 does. Also usually keep it with me as an everyday cam just in case I find something I want pics of that I wasn't expecting. Nice little camera and very flexible -- does what my D3 does control-wise and the output is better than average for a P&S, though a bit noisy and doesn't have the dynamic range I'm used to. Still, you can get some really nice pics with it, so no complaints.
Definitely only shoot RAW with it if you want the best quailty, and yeah, anything above 400iso is a bit pointless unless there's no other option, 200iso is pushing it a bit too, but with good noise software (Noise Ninja, etc.) still very doable. You might want to check Best Buy before ordering from B&H -- when I got mine, it was listed there as $499, but I asked if they could do better and they said $450 no problem. Might save you some waiting time and shipping. Also, don't waste money on an extra warranty -- if you're going to have problems they'll happen in the first year or sooner, and if not, by that time the G11 will be out and the G10 will be a moot point. G11 is rumored out fairly soon with possibly lower MP count, but larger sensor, so better noise capabilty. We'll see. Still, G10 is a nice camera.

Yeah I've seen the rumors of the G11 and I'm upset that the G10 doesn't record in at least 720p for video.
I like the G10 for the way they placed all the controls. I don't plan on shooting above 400 but if I do it won't be for large prints.
I'm going to get a few attachments that I've seen:
Lens adapter and hood
Metz flash
.45 Wide angle lens
Macro lens
Might end up getting the underwater case too.
This will just be my starting camera to take everywhere until I save up for a good DSLR.

One fun thing about the G10 -- it has awesome macro capability! Take a look at the free wallpaper link in my sig -- all the Hot Wheels shots were with the G10 in Macro mode using an off camera flash bounced from the ceiling with a piece of white paper as the background. The flash didn't need to be off camera, but I only have Nikon flashes, so it was just a jury-rig setup. The camera was maybe 3-4" from the car most of the time, so that's just great macro ability.
I can't wait until the Panasonic rangefinder is released. At least it will use Leica glass. I don't like the Olympus EP-1.
I'll have a few accessories for my G10 in the next few weeks. Lens adapter and hood. Fisheye and a flash too.
Since you're getting the filter adapter, pick up a polarizing filter too.
My "G" is still a G7, but I am still more likely to be carrying it than several other P/S Canons. When I have my 40D, I feel obligated to haul a bunch of lenses, too!
