Road trips (no way, right?), seeing cool license plates on the road and collecting them, along with collecting a lot of random crap, working on the motorcycle and scooter, doing a slow restoration on a Miata, baking more than cooking, hanging out with my dog, the occasional outdoorsy activity like hike, and i used to be big into photography. Slowly working on getting back on that one though.

l'm a railfan and really like freight trains. At the railroad park in Flatonia Texas they have a railfan party twice a year. We went there last Saturday. And got a few good pics of the Fit out there.
I just watched a NOVA special on Netflix called "Why Trains Crash".
It does go into the details of some of the worst rail disasters.
But a large portion is also about the Bullet Trains in Europe and Asia. Some of the newest now running on magnet rails.
I personally think it is nearly shameful the USA has nothing to compete with these trains and this system. The commuter train system in the USA is based on nearly a 100 year old model.
Meanwhile in Europe and Asia, bullet trains are going 200-250+ MPH.
I'd like to see investment into a USA based bullet train and infrastructure. Our ancient rails can't handle these trains.
The USA use to be a country that led the world in having the best, latest and most innovative. Now? What do we lead the world in? Overweight and under dressed Wal-Mart shoppers?
I want a super train...and where's my hover board!
A month ish ago, I rode the heck out of Japan's Shinkansen (bullet train). I traveled from Tokyo -> Niigata. Tokyo -> Aichi Prefecture. Tokyo -> Osaka. Osaka -> Kyoto.
Those damn things are MARVELOUS. Feels like you're riding on a plane. Its insane convenient too .... you walk up... present your passes ... walk straight to your seat .... sit. No TSA, no crap .... super efficient!
TL;DR = planes suck, bullet trains are way cooler

My lifelong hobby (since I was, like, 8-ish....am now 60) has been playing guitar (mostly electric, occasionally acoustic or bass) I used to be quite good, took lessons from an excellent jazz guitarist, was well versed in theory) Have forgotten most theory, but my brain and fingers still seem to know what sounds good (usually), folks think I'm really good, and I let 'em think what they want.....LOL.....my humble collection of affordable guitars is a great source of joy after the misery of 12 night shift nursing!!! Another favorite hobby has been mountain/road biking in years past, kinda fell out of it over the last several years (no close mtb trails and too many ignorant drivers down here in east TN compared to where we lived previously in southeast MI......spent the fall tuning the old MTB back up, am going to get back into it this spring, if my heart cooperates. My wife is quite supportive of my guitar lust, she, in fact, bought me my most expensive guitar for my 60th b-day in Feb
Night photography is my fav type of photography, especially in December. The old rail tower and caboose gets lit up for the holidays every year at the rail park in Flatonia Texas.
l used flash with a slow shutter speed for the ghost locomotive look on the passing train.
Road trips, which is one reason we drive the most efficient and lowest cost-to-own Hondas. Since 2001, we have put over half-a-million miles on a CIvic and a Fit.
To the great chagrin of everyone else in the car, my hobby includes alternative routes. Ever tell Google to plot a 200 hour walking route across five states and then drive it instead? I have. Once I prompted a mutiny that almost put me out on a wilderness roadside after I woke everyone up in CA to see western terminus of US Route 6. "How far are we from the Interstate?" Sadly for me, my passengers can now pull up GPS on their phones and see for themselves.
That's my main hobby. I get serious with the piano every few years. I love our pool, but for every hour I spend in it, I spend ten working on maintaining it.
