Two Areas for Improvement

There are two areas that need improvement on virtually all cars: sun visors and the fuse box.

Aside from the box under the hood, those located under the dash are very difficult to access. Why would car makers do that? I installed an additional fuse box in my Fit, and I attached it with Velcro in the passenger's footwell so I can pull it off and check the fuses. I was thinking of putting it under the hood, but then I would have to run all the wires through the firewall. The factory could install one that is accessible right at the dashboard, with an easily-removable cover.

It seems that whenever I use a sun visor, it covers everything but what has to be covered. I've had only one car that had a decent sun visor. It was a Buick that had a panel that I could pull out of the visor to cover the bare area on the windshield or then side window. Being blinded by the sun is a safety concern, and I can't believe that car makers can't find a solution.

My rant for the day. : )

My 2004 has the best sun visor system I've seen. It has this part that slides out towards the rear view mirror. The whole thing flips to the side to cover the side window if you need it. While flipped to the side, there is another small visor that flips down to block the windshield again.

So why can't they all do that? Some bad reviews, though.

This might be good.

My Dodge minivan had the slide out visor - I don't see why this isn't standard on all cars. It also had defrost wires in windshield where the wipers sat - brilliant idea, but probably made it too expensive to replace the windshield.

I suppose the Germans agree with you. Mine is on the end of the dash with a panel that pops out.

How often does one need to look at the fuse box?

I can't believe that car makers can't find a solution.
Cost and they assume you have sunglasses in the car. A spot to hold them would be great.

Because fuses aren't accessed very often.

And because if they included enough features, you wouldn't buy an Accord.

I shoved a piece of cardboard above the rear-view mirror to cover the area that the sun visors don't reach and it works great. It's wedged in place between the mirror and the ceiling.

The last and only time I blew a fuse on a car is when water leaked on the fuse box because there was a hole at the base of the windshield.

It's not really important to have the fuse box readily accessible.

I agree with you on the sun visor extension.

In my case, it's not so much for blown fuses - can't recall ever having one - but for tapping into an empty slot for an accessory. Adding my own fuse panels takes care of that, though.

Right. I have some sheets of window tint material, and I think I'll put some in the center of the windshield and at the top of the driver's window.
