How many times has Honda promised their latest model would "restore their sporting appeal to enthusiasts" or something along those lines, and then brought out something uninteresting - except to my neighbors who buy looks&badge over driving enjoyment?
I can tell you what this is, so that you won't be too disappointed if it happens.
It'll be electric - because that's what all the automakers are hocking today. Most likely the "AWD" is a rear wheel electric drive. Gas to the front.
It'll be built on the new Civic platform. But it'll be heavier than the Civic (that's what adding batteries does).
It'll probably be a slightly raised hatchback. Or a "lifted sedan coupe" or whatever they're calling the Polestar 2 -- which is basically a sedan that had to sit higher up to fit in the batteries
With an electric motor in play, you'll be lucky to get a manual. Er wait, actually, I mean, you probably won't get one.
Could I be wrong? Will they actually give it a 8000-rpm n/a screamer, a manual, dual wishbones, and a 20-hp RWD electric motor for temporary kick?
Maybe. That's a electrified Civic Type R. That's what Honda would have done if this were still 1990. Personally I'm thinking "updated ILX."

Honda needs a BRZ/86 fighter. Maybe an s2000 will be back. I'll hold out until all these cars are out in the open before deciding what car to get.

Not that Honda cares what I want, but if they did.
Make something that looks similar to a 1990 Prelude, put in a 2.2 to 2.4 liter non turbocharged engine, making around 175 hp, 6 speed manual, 4 wheel disc brakes, and I will be a customer for sure.

.
I just hope the newer versions, of these old names, are good cars. Not some watered down grandma car.
I looked at a brand new Civic, before buying my used Fit. Seems Honda watered them down, and couldn't just leave the engine naturally aspirated.
