510 miles with 1 tank

pushing my record a little further with a 1991 accord LX 2.2L manual. I'm
convinced I could have done 30-40 extra miles on the freeway with what was
left but a Dallas-Houston-Dallas trip was enough for me and I filled it up
back home before the price rose again. I was going 60-62 mph on my trip and
I spent maybe 10 miles of city driving in Houston.

That's awesome.

Are you getting pretty close to the spec 17.1 gallons there? I've gotten
400 on a tank (I have the same car) but I have never run it so low as to
take more than 16 gallons in.

And how many miles on it?

"I was going 60-62 mph on my trip...."

You might have achieved the world mileage record on an Accord but what
is the point of putting your life and other at risk for going 60-62 mph
on the interstate.

stand on the gas...it's fun!

If you are satisfied going slow…walk – get the %#@* off the roads and out of the way of us en-route to someplace! There are more comfortable places to sleep than in your Fit! You are an impediment to traffic.

The same can be said for the "lead foots" out there.
60-62 is perfectly legal on a 65 or 70mph speed limit highway. I'd rather drive around a slow driver (who's saving money as well) then worry about the A**holes cutting through 3 lanes of traffic at 80mph.

And in refresh mode I'd take the Fit over some other sleeping accomodations... :)

Slowpokes – please have the courtesy to get out of the way

80 is also "legal" on a 70 posted highway…you don’t get ticketed.

If you were not so inconsiderate and use your rear-view mirror while impeding traffic, I wouldn't have to use all three lanes (if there are three lanes) to get around you. Please have the courtesy to get out of the way. Slowpokes are like smokers – inconsiderate of non-smokers.

Think about this…the guy going fast is not in your way and yet, you are in the way of the guy going fast…and yet you get mad!!!!!!!!!!

Please explain this to me so I understand…

.... hello guys why are you bringing up a thread from 2005.

Also Jodele you need to chill out. People have a right to go under the speed limit a certain amount just as people have a right to go over a certain amount.

80 is not legal in ANY way if the posted speed limit is 70. Ask your local law enforcement; the whole plus or minus 5/9, whatever, mph over the speed limit is a myth. You can get a ticket for 71 in a 70 if an officer feels so inclined (and some do.)

I am not inconsiderate, nor was a "mad" about your statement or response - just disappointed; I follow proper roadway etiquette, and I'm sure many others do as well, including hopefully these hypermilers. On a 2 lane road, Right lane is the slow lane. Left is pass/fast lane. On a 3 lane, Left is slow, middle is cruise, and right is still the pass/fast. The more lanes, well you can figure it out. Now, others don't always do this; but I still feel it's more reckless/dangerous to get aggressive and frustrated by those people who are slower by tailgating less than 2-3 seconds behind you (If I can barely see your headlights in my rearview, that's trouble) or swerving through the slower traffic in multiple lanes to get around them versus those who are doing 60-62 in a 65 or even 70 mph speed limit zone (Where often 45 mph is the speed minimum). If you are in a hurry, you should have left your house sooner. Your point of reference ("the slow person is in my way..." etc) is skewed. Being self-centered on the roadway leads to more problems. And if you are looking ahead as you drive, you will see those "dangerous" slowpokes in the left lane far in advance to negotiate safely using the right lane (or other, depending on how many) to pass them without looking like a maniac. And if it's busy, deal with it, don't weave in and out of it with reckless abandon - you're increasing the risk of getting rear-ended or rear-ending someone else every time. You're not going to get where you need to go any faster. (Here in Florida every stop light is like a drag street Tree; everyone wants to get off the line first - ridiculous when there's another stop light 1000 feet away that is almost always red)

I think the point here is there's more than one way to skin a cat - but not every way is equal (fast is more dangerous than slow, but both can be annoyances)

And I won't even get into the analogy you used to compare slow drivers to smokers...

Sorry to bring up a dead thread. Hopefully this is end of discussion. :)
