Hi guys,

I have a 92 Prelude that's seen better days but is still in pretty good
condition (for almost 15 years old and 306,000Kms - almost 200K miles).
Yesterday I seemed to have developped a small electrical problem...

As it happens, yesterday and today, rain's been coming down almost
non-stop. So I take my car out for a spin and when I pull the key out
of the ignition, the fan blower is still working, the light on the
button indicating where the air is blowing (defrost, legs, face,
face-legs, anyway you get it) is still on, and my daytime running
lights are also still on. Everything else is off tho. The radio doesn't
work, my wipers don't work, my electric windows don't work.

I can only figure that rain is seeping in somewhere, but I was hoping
that someone with more electrical knowledge on this car than me, could
tell me possibly where the water is leaking in (by knowing what's
staying on and what's staying off). Popping the hood didn't reveal
anything obvious (which I sadly admit is the almost the limit of what I
know about what's under the hood...).

how did you manage to shut everything off? or did you?

id probably pull each fuse (one at a time)from the underhood and
under-dash fuseboxes and look for moisture/corrosion. if i had to take a
wild-ass guess, id say its a bad windshield seal causing the underdash
fusebox to get wet. any water in the footwell? in the area?

Your ignition switch is shot . . google search should confirm that. It's
very common at high mileage. Dealers are very quick at changing them, so
dicker them for the labour rate . . tell them you want it for 1/2 the
book value.

Hi ! Thanx for the replies... I manage to shut everything off by just
turning off the heat, and the blower, and pulling the fuse for my
Daytime Running Lights. When I did that, I had to open the fuse box
under the dash, and there was no moisture, not in the footwell either.

New development.... now, whenever I press the button for my
rear-defroster.... I get the chime that rings when you leave your
headlights on. It's actually pretty funny, all things considered, but I
still aren't any closer to finding an answer.

Is a bad windshield seal really the must likely culprit?

How exactly could this be linked to my ignition switch? Considering it
only happens when it rains... ?

when its dry out, everything works perfectly normal?

in my civic, theres some "multiplex box" thingie that controls a lot of
different things. maybe you have one too, and its gone wacko. id either
consult a dealer (ugh!) or get a helm manual for your car and
troubleshoot there. its pretty good on troubleshooting, if you use a bit
of logic.
