Fit Vs. Civic

Hey, I'm just debating about whether to get a brand new Fit LX (here in Canada) or a Civic DX-G because the dealer is offering it to me so that there is only about 500$ difference. I figured you guys would know best since you clearly own Fits/love them and I was wondering if I could have your honest opinion since you've owned them and know what they're like.

I'm young University student, and the insurance is the same for both cars. So I'm really wondering if they are and will be worth what a Civic is and which will work best in the long run (which is a little harder to tell with the Fit being so new.)

Any opinions or anything would be great help, thank you!

Personally, I think the base Fit is a better deal than any DX.

Alright, thanks! I'm also thinking about getting sport as well, it all depends on the price difference in the end.

Fit over a DX hands down. Fit offers a lot more standard, it's fun to drive and it's what's new :D

I have a (US) 2003 Civic EX and a 2008 Fit Base MT. Except for longer road trips, where the Civic is a little more comfortable, I find myself reaching for the Fit keys much more often. Also, for someone in your situation I'd think the Fit would be the better choice due to its versatility. My daughter just borrowed the Fit to move out of her apartment and it's simply unbelievable how much stuff you can haul in that thing.

This is how I would approach it...
-the Civic is probably a bit safer especially in the back seats
-the Fit is still good in the safety department
-the Fit is more versitale with cargo and such by a TON! TON!!!
-the Civic is considerably less versatile-the Civic's interior is more modern
-the Fits interior is less cluttered
-the Civic has more adjustability for its front seated occupants...seat..wheel...
-the Fit has way more head room and is probably easier to get into and or unload from
-they both have decent brakes...maybe the Fit just out stops the Civic
-the Civic out accelerates the Fit (in either trim level) by a bit...and has more power at all rmps and speeds
-the Fit out handles the Civic by a bit...
-visibility is about the same...the A pillars in the fit are huge but easy to deal with, the Civic's A pillars extend out to infinity and you have less L and R 3/4 visibility and less of a sense of where the front and back are.
-they apparently average the same mpg, the fit maybe better around town the Civic maybe better on longer trips and or hwy.
-the Civic is cleaner burning
-the Civic has a bigger tank...probably will travel longer on it...
-The Fit is better equiped in its base version than the base Civic
-I dont think there is a CIVICFREAK.NET
-the Fit is cuter
-the Fit may actually depreciate slower...Civics are pretty good in that department too..
-the Civic is quieter especially at freeway speeds
-Fit is more rare and unique...especially since this is the last year of this model
-the Civic is less rare and parts and service is probably going to be easier to attain..
-the Fit is easier to park, and takes up less room when parked
-In your case the Civic would be 500 less in your pocket
-the Civic will be less affected handling wise with more occupants and more general weight...
-the Fits gauges are more traditional and have less of an adjustment period.
-the Civic is less buffeted by wind
-did I mention the Fit is way more VERSATILE...?
-the Civic comes in two body styles
-the Civic is probably more comfortable on longer excursions...
-the Fit has a higher seating position with better attentive visibility
-the Fit has the options of paddle shifters (if you dig em they are great!)
-the Fit in manual trim might have a more friendly and livable and positive engagement
-the Fit can be argued to have more "character/personality"
-one word FitFreaks!!!

anywho...those might be somethings you would like to contrast...:D

Welcome to FitFreaks by the way!!!

but most dx's that do find there way to dealer lots have these options added on. honda only invented a dx without them to claim a low starting price for the civic.

Notice i said MOST but there are probably a few of them that go without a/c, but who buys a car that way in this century?

I think the fit is worlds more versatile, but the extra power and stability and safety of the civic are nice. But equally nice is the uniqueness of the fit. You'd have to do quite a bit to the civic to get it that way.

I will say this though. If the civic came in a hatch configuration and included magic seats like the UK version does, it would be no contest.

but until then, the fit is still go.:)

One thing that made me do this  is how the fit rates at LEV2 while the Civic is ULEV? They both have Vtec engines yet the one with the higher horsepower has the cleaner california emission rating. I really hope the new Fit will have the ULEV rating so I can sleep easy at night...

I know...we drive a "DIRTY BIRD"....ummm....well...you dont but I do;)
I think it has to do with the engine being older and pushed to make the power it does...
My old 01 civic was ULEV...but the engine was designed for that...and the civic is in a higher bracket...ULEV...umm..."luxury emissions" :D
FIT L.E.V. ludicrously environmental vehicle...its still probably cleaner than most other vehicles...

I had an 2006 Civic... I'm in a Fit now.

My Civic was a US DX though which does not have the power locks and a/c that the DX-G does in Canada. If I could do it all over I would've gotten a US Civic LX from the beginning since I'm now paying out the ass in negative equity but the DX lacked so many features I had to let it go. I'm also getting better city mileage on my Fit than I did on my automatic Civic though so that's another plus. Both are different drives though, when I was trading in my DX I was originally looking at getting an LX but they happened to have a Fit on the lot that was special order and got backed out of that morning so I took it for a drive and fell in love with the handling and saved myself another $2000ish.

But me personally, I'd take a Civic with a/c, power locks and radio over a Fit. Which is why if I could do it over I would've gotten an LX instead of a DX, but the DX-G is pretty much the same as the US LX just without painted mirrors and handles and the cruise control I think.

Test them both out, see what you like; the MT Fit and the Auto R18 civics are pretty much the same as far as acceleration goes, but the Fit stops going at around 112ish and the Civic I got to 128.

Thanks a lot for your help guys! Although I didn't get to read all of them before I made my decision because I've been debating for a month and the 0.9% financing deal ended today so I made my decision quickly in the afternoon. I testdrove them both again and decided with a 5 speed Blue Pearl Fit, Sport.

I get to pick it up next Friday so I have time to put winter tires on it right after pick up. I can't wait!

Probably the right move. The Fit is the better car if you're looking for something versitile. If you only have one car in your household, a wagon or hatchback is the way to go. Once you're up to multiple vehicles, then the Civic is a lot more attractive of a car.

greats on the new car.

ive also had thoughts whether or not the civic was the way to go, but the Fit never seems to let me down when it comes to versatility.

i think the only reason id go for the civic LX over my car is that itd be a softer ride for long trips and more power for hills and passing people up on the freeway. ive figured out how the car likes to be handled and i pretty much stay in sport mode (i have an AT) on the freeways and choose my gears, and when im on an onramp and merging, ill stick in 3rd and 4th a little bit longer to get the extra push.

i wouldve gone for an 5 speed MT, but 1. it was impossible to find one down here in socal at the time and 2. i live in an area where the freeways are more than likely jammed and the side streets near the coast are full of hills 3. Paddle Shifters on an AT. i mean, the fit is the only car in its class with a 5 speed auto tranny AND paddle shifters for the sport model.
