2005 Accord Road Noise

My Accord is pretty noisy on the freeway. I can't tell if it is from
the Michelin tires or just the way Hondas sound. It definitely detracts
from hearing the radio etc. Is there something that can be done to
reduce the noise level?

The 2005 Accord doesn't exactly have a decent radio. I can barely hear
it if the windows are down.

Re: 2005 Accord Road Noise

That was the first thing I noticed when we traded in our '99 Accord
V-6 on a 2003 Accord V-6. I attributed it to the stiffer suspension
and lower profile tires. I would guess that you could reduce that by
experimenting with tires, but that would get pretty expensive. I've
just learned to accept it.

Re: 2005 Accord Road Noise

Does the noise change between concrete and asphalt road surfaces? Some
road surfaces are just noisier than others. Also make sure your tires are
not over inflated.

Re: 2005 Accord Road Noise

If you read the current reviews of Honda's, including Consumer Magazines,
you will note road noise is often mentioned. When I upgraded my
daughter's 95 Civic EX to a 98 Civic EX, There was a large incease in road
noise. I glued inexpensive sound insulation to the inside surfaces of the
trunk and reduced road noise about 50 percent I think. There was plenty of
space under the trim in the trunk to do this. There is a lot of expensive
stuff out there, but I used a very dense foam (1/2 thick) purchased at a
home heating and refrigeration shop and glued it with Armaflex 520
Adhesive also available at the same shop.

Re: 2005 Accord Road Noise

You can certainly spend about $300-500 to noise proof the car. But remember,
it will add weight to it as well.

Re: 2005 Accord Road Noise

Interesting. So just adding insulation to the trunk reduced noise
significantly?
