Fit : SUV :: Smart Car : Fit

Our Fits must be like big monstrous SUVs in the eyes of Smart Car owners.

Now I feel guilty for driving a Fit.

Ahh I think I know why. The first gen ones here in Canada were all diesel so our MPG are a lot better. The new 2nd gen ones that are going to be released in the US are petrol...

Wow seems like some slight drama between FIt and Smart owners even on this forum... I like my fit because of the style so the smart car is out for me, but I'm in Iowa and I just saw the first smart on the road here :) ... strange to go to europe knowing we don't have those and a few years later see one driving down my street... IMO they are good cars for those who want good FE but little room for friends or power. I don't know! Illusive is the only one I read so far that can truly compare the two... Whats the power difference between a Fit and a Smart considering weight

Well the smart I had had a diesel engine in it. New one has a petrol engine so it has more power, but sacrifices fuel economy. It's a great city car and for the occasional highway drive for me. I did get it to the limiter at 140km/h on the highway to Banff. It's fun passing people in the smart haha! smart definitely has less power, but when driving in the city, it's not as noticeable. The biggest kink in the smarts' chain is the transmission. The shifter is rough and slow. I think they improved it on the new one.

lol, I see Illusive working his political powers to ease tensions :D

There is one advantage of a Smart car over the Fit.... at the meets you only need a tiny little 7-11 parking lot for the Smart cars! :rotfl:

yea....thats not correct. the civic SI does not exist in japan and while on the topic, either do civic coupes.
the only USDM civics that are made in japan is the hybrid.
however ,the transmission in the 06+ civic is made in japan, and the 08 civic has the engine and transmission made in japan.

every other civic/part of the civic is made in canada.

Some Civic Sedans are made in Japan, as well as some accord sedans, some CRVs, All S2000s and Fits

the brabus looks awesome! but even with all the work and what it costs, do you still want to be driving a car thats making 110 hp max? (AFTER the mods? and that being generous. not to mention brabus is baller, and costs a pretty peny.)

as far as power goes, i know the new petrol engines make a bit more...but lets be reasonable guys, even then the new car takes as much time to get to sixty as some midsize sedans take to get to 100mph.

the last edmunds article on it was a full test on the passion version. i think it was about as slow as the civic hybrid.

Smart cars look like the short bus of small cars....

I'll take a Fit (or a Versa, or a Yaris for that matter), thank you very much.

Finally assembly of the Civic (Si's excluded) is Ohio. East Liberty, I believe. Just thought you should know.

NHTSA cites safety concern after crash testing smart fortwo - Autoblog

There's some ammo to fire back at the Smart forums for anyone interested.
Doors shouldn't pop open in a crash.

BTW, most of the crash videos I've seen of the Smart were pretty darn impressive.

I'm sure Merc will be fixing the latches on the door so they are more secure. Otherwise, very impressive on the new design! Tridion +1! :D

I'm sure they will as well. I have to honest in saying that the only real negative I've heard of the Smart cars is the transmission shifting. Even the newer ones are slow from what I've read. Otherwise they seem great if you can get by with a 2 seater (I can't but I still like them).

So much hate, not enough love...sigh...

I dunno, I thought my smart was a hoot to drive and was economical for my purposes at the time. I know your fill ups now are cheaper than those SUV's, but its a big bonus when a big truck was sitting there filling up, you pull in, put in $13 worth of diesel...and off you go haha. I have to say, the transmission is the only weak link in the car. Didn't like it much, but I did master it haha.

BTW, this is a great read for all you Yanks south of Canada :p

Like they all say, it's not for everyone, but if you live in a dense city and do a lot of urban driving, it's a great car to putt around in!
