Honda Tuning did a nice article on this awhile ago. Interesting interview with the team that created it.

Amen! My dad wants to buy a new car and he's looking at the new xB (bleh), I'm trying to convince him into going with the Element SC.

yeah F the xb.. the element sc is so much greater.

i love everything about it. i hated the older elements because of the flat black panels everywhere. but now since everything is color matched. it looks soooo nice.

Honda R&D Americas built the car. Not to be confused, it was an employee effort done completely on their own time.

J32 V6 from a TL
twin GT28RS Garrett turbos
Crower I-beam rods
CP 8.0:1 pistons
Stock heads
Liquid-to-air intercooler
Siemens injectors
Keihin tuned stock ECU
ATL fuel cell
Tremec T56 6-speed tranny
DSS prop shaft and half shafts
8.8" IRS diff housingand Torsen 2R LSD
500rwhp, peak boost @ 2500RPM

What looks like a lunchbox I believe is the heat exchanger/intake manifold. That's not the engine. The engine is underneath it.

In case anyone wanted to recreate it ;)
