Fit vs. VW Rabbit

He has since removed the high-flow resonator to get it a little louder, sounds a little meaner too.

It's a customl 2.5" tubing from the cat to a magnaflow universal muffler and then out to some nice DTM style tips.

nice thanks for the link!
I think ngpracing.com has been working on a bunch of mods on the Rabbit. Also I have been told in the past if u run a higher octane some people report better MPG. But I would always run a higher octane in a modded ride to get everything u can out of it. But this is my opinion, so if u don't agree so be it just my .02.
when i ran it, i think i got about the same, if i got more mpg, its neglible.
dont' worry man, i agree with the notion of putting higher octane when you add mods, it just makes sense. back when i had my bunny, there wasn't enough around to justify the switch to better fuel.
Your only post and this is it  Hmmmm, looks like somebody is hunting around for a new car.
If you are seriously stuck between them nothing beats a back to back test drive. I find that the Fit feels surprisingly upscale inside, also the driver feedback is great. It isn't something you can quantify into numbers, you litereally just have to go expereince it for yourself.

yep, a test drive is a sure fire way to get the best real world impressions.
there is better feedback in the fit, thats for sure...and while it is def upscale for the price, it certainly is not more so than the rabbit. that was the first (and one of the few) things that my wife and i had to 'get over' when we got the fit; the interior is brilliant, but the rabbit is a hell of an nice place to spend your time in.:)
The Rabbit was on my list of choices when I was shopping for a new car. But the history and consumer reports of reliability kept me away. Specially since I am the type that owns/drives a car until it dies for the most part. So once I get past the warranty, I might get hosed.
In all fairness guys I own an 08 Rabbit and love it, but I am looking at the Fit to replace a Pontiac Torrent SUV which only gets 18mpg on average. After weeks of waiting, we were finally able to find a Fit to test drive...no one had any stock and if they did they were already pre-sold! These Fits are a HOT commodity!! My wife would be driving it so she had to LOVE it in order for us to decide on it. After testing several cars including Versa, 09 and 08 Vibe, Scion XD and Yaris, she got a chance to test drive the FIT and she was totally sold as was I. We loved the peppiness and agile feel of the FIT and the interior is really comfortable- the gauges are in the right place (unlike Yaris, Scion etc where they are in the center stack) and the flexiblity of the seats really make it a great car to own and drive- combine this with Honda reliability and the amazing mpg and you have a winner.
Don't get me wrong I drive the Rabbit and love all the great torque and nicely buttoned down interior but the gas mileage is not in the same league as the FIT - I am averaging 26-27mpg. My best tank was the last one which was all hwy at 73mph and I got 30. I am thinking the FIT would have got at least 38 for the same trip. Since my objective was to replace an SUV giving 18mpg with a car that would yield a significant improvement in mpg and yet have enough cargo room for stuff and kids, I could not find a better solution than the FIT- hands down the best car on the market for our needs!! Thanks to everyone for your input on this thread.... Cheers!

I am not surprised, I honestly was going to pick up a Versa. It had more power, more gears among other goodies. But after a back to back test drive it was a no brainier and I got the Fit.
x2 bro! give a test drive a shot and see what happens.

good question, no smartass vibes here man!;)
basically, it came down to economy. my wife an i drive A LOT around 30k a year (we have 23k on the fit and we have had it since last august so go figure.)
i have no place to change the oil on the fit myself, so it crucial to take my cars to dealerships/mechanics to get them serviced.
the fit has yet to exceed 40bucks for scheduled maintenence...the rabbit is quite a bit more. some services exceeded 250 bucks! thats just the penalty for having a german car...sure you can go the a la carte route, but even given the VW's newfound reliabilty, i'd hate for it to screw up because i didnt' do things the right way, german cars can be a bit finicky.
i miss a lot of it, i just don't miss the service. my wife and i agreed that cars that are expensive to service was for another (future) point in our lives, just not now.
(and now, they are offering free service for the first 3 years! )
had no issues with the car though. it ran great, was fun and very upscale,
but as i'm sure you all know, the fit has its merits too! ;)

New to the forum and to the Fit (got mine Monday), but I'm surprised that people cross shop Fits and Rabbits. Not a knock on Fits in any way whatsoever, but they're considered "B" class cars, super economical vehicles to buy, own, and drive, and Rabbits are not. It's a testament to just how good the Honda is that people are comparing a Fit to a Rabbit!
As for the Rabbit's supposedly newfound reliability, I remember reading the same thing about Jaguar two or three times so far. ;)

har har har. its not supposed. but it is newfound. granted there are still those weird mkIV owners who have not had a single issue with their car, but you never hear about THEM.
I think one of the reasons the fit gets compared is cause the rabbit, as mentioned before, has such a cheap starting price. i mean, if you forgo rims and an auto tranny and buy the two door, you have a solidly built german made hatchback for 16k. thats unheard of. i hope vw doesn't cheapen out the next gen. the mkV's take a long time to build and are worth more than what vw charges for em.

Within that context: German cars have many fine qualities but low cost of ownership is not one of them. Back when Beetles were still being built it was a different story, especially because there was a Brazilian VW factory and tons of cheap Brazilian parts. But that was a long time ago.
And never, ever, have I thought of Bosch electronics as either inexpensive or reliable. Busted Bosch bits left me sitting by the side of the road far more often than any other single source.
I had one of the early 2006 Rabbit's and do agree that it was a very nice car. I traded it in for the Fit because I needed a 4 door car for the kid(s) and I'm loving the added fuel economy with the Fit as well. Here's a pic of the Rabbit:
oh man, that looks so nice! mine was a two door like yours, but in the united gray, on stock 16's. are those gti sideskirts?
my dream was to get gti painted door and bumper strips, lower it on some bbs and maybe do an intake an exhaust. bam! a perfect, reasonably quick dd thats easy enough on the pocket book and has just the right amount of parts to not make you want to go crazy with it. (unlike the fit!:D )
you made a good choice man. i was going to say that you could have gotten a four door rabbit, but the fuel economy is still the issue.
