Why go GM have false advertise ?

I drove by a dealer and they had a sticker on the Cobalt 36MPG. I read the consumer report, 1 of the negative about the Cobalt was the low MPG. I was like WTF ?

and malibu advertised as 32MPG ? how can a car this heavy get 32MPG and the fit get 33 MPG ?

Engine, aerodynamics, tires.... Weight DOES play a part, but there is more to it then just that.

FWIW, I get about 38-41 with my Fit in mixed driving conditions.

The mileage sticker is done through standardized testing. It's NOT GM or Honda or Ford or anyone else making up their own numbers.

Because the Fit is a city car, with a tiny engine and short gears to make it driveable in the city. It's not supposed to be a highway car and it's gearing proves this. The compact and midsize sedans all have bigger engines that allow them to cruise at really low rpms on the highway and with today's innovations and technology it's easy to make them more efficient when doing so. Hell even a C6 Corvette should get around 30mpg on the highway when it shuts off half of it's cylinders.

It's a new model - XFE. I'm not sure what all they tweaked; I know it has a different tune, low resistance tires, etc... Only on the manual trans cars.

Too bad they did that to a Cobalt. If they had given the Astra the same treatment, I might have ended up in one of those instead...

i can testify to the fact the cobalt doesn't get that. i had a rental that was a cobalt about 2 weeks ago for 4 days. The car had 14k miles on it. the digital thing only said 27.7mpg at it's HIGHEST. 1/4 tank lasted me 50 miles. i drove it like i drove my fit, speed limit, no fast acceleration and no passing.

You reset the ECU though? There's been other drivers...that have prolly' had some fun with the car, or doesn't that help anymore? Disconnect the battery, reset the ECU's data so it'll compensate/learn your driving style?

on the vehicles today, they are constantly "re-learning" so there is no need to reset the ecu. I work for an exhaust company and i do the tech support. In my experience, anything newer than 2006 doesn't need the ECU reset

I understand there were other drivers, but it's like when my wife drives my car....i get less MPG than she does. All about driving style.

Yea didn't know that... I knew of course they got more "advanced" n stuff, but yea, still figured if you buy a vehicle from someone else you should unplug the battery for a lil while for the ecu to reset/erase it's mem.

The XFE is supposed to get it, but it's got one heck of an overdrive gear in order to make 36 highway.

Hey, I'm happy with my combined 30-35 real MPG with my slushbox Fit.

The Honda page says 28/34/31 (city/highway/combined) for the MT.

The 2007 and 2008 Fits were rated differently. I believe the 07 gets better MPGs

why would the 07 get better mpg if the only difference in the cars is TPS?
