I'll have to see one in person, but it might look better than the '09 Fit.

I told my college-bound brother to check them out when they arrive. Not that I don't like the Fit, just I like a little variety of vehicles in the family. I just dislike how Toyota has the option lists from hell.

Just came back from Ecuador recently and these 4 door versions are ALL OVER THE PLACE. And a lot were modded - some really poorly, others very tastefully, so as mentioned, there's lots of potential. However, I don't really see it become a major competitor for the fit, no more than the versa or current yaris has been, because I'm willing to bet it will still have the same features on the base model as the 3 door/4 door sedan - namely ABS being optional, not standard. And to me, not only was simple Honda reliability a deciding factor, but ABS being standard as well for me when purchasing my Fit.
But, it's more room and honestly if this was here a year ago I would have given it alot more than a passing glance. I'm 6'1" - the 3 door hatch was a no go for me and sedans are bland (minus performance sedans...)
Plus, will the Yaris have magic seats? I doubt it. Will it have a million cup holders like the upcoming 09 Fit? doubtful. Or as much useful space as the current fit has?
It'll probably have a dead pedal, and few other things to make you think twice, but I'll never second guess my decision. Honda FTW!

The article says ABS standard.

Alloys are optional on the sport model, that's the crud I hate from Toyota...

couldn't have said it better. anything with an 's' or 'se' moniker NEEDS to have alloys. heck, toyota will slap leather on the car before alloy wheels sometimes!

i think the question of it being a competitor to the fit is silly, because it already is, there is no changing that.

I didn't realize so many mods were available, but i do see more yari around where i live with aftermarket wheels and the like.

it does look better, but if the differences between most honda's and toyotas still rings true as it has in the past, the fit will still be the better driving and better handling car. and it will still have the nicer interior to boot.

actually, the 09 5 door yaris with that sports package (lip kit and spoiler) doesn't look that bad. If the car had a nice set of wheels and was dropped, it'll look pretty sick. Still, i'd pick the fit over the yaris ANYDAY.

from the outside it looks pretty good. it reminds me of the old Rav4...like
more of a utility vehicle than a on-road micro wagon.

Yep - I saw them all over in Vancouver, and was wondering why we never got it down here. I suspect that Toyota didn't want it competing with the Scion line.

They've been selling this in canada. I think it will impact sales just because it's another option.

If they had that here around the time i bought my Fit, it would have been a serious alternative. They look great and Toyotas are up there with Hondas (plus i love their ac)
