2005 Accord with Michelin "Energy" high-gas-mileage tires, 5000 miles on
the odometer.

One tire develops a crack in the sidewall. I called the 800 number on the
warrantee pamphlet and was told that it was caused by a road hazard. If dry
asphalt is a hazard, then he's right. I guess I didn't expect them to
honor the manufacturing defect warrantee. I sold the 3 other ones as
"take-offs" and bought 4 new all season tires with 50,000 mile guarantee
plus road hazard (reputable brand). Owning a French product goes against
my grain anyhow.

Never had any cracks or cuts with Michelin's Energy tires but they are
lousy for another reason - god awful poor wet traction and when they
break loose - forgetaboutit. The Michelin X-1 is an excellent tire -
superb traction wet and snow and if you do break loose, you still have
some control. Oh and the energy tires squall like hell when put into a
hard corner on dry pavement - terrible tires and all to give the car
makers fleet a fraction of a mile improvement in their fleet mile
ratings.

Most OEM-type tires are crap anyway, regardless of the tire manufacturer and
car manufacturer.

 

agreed - you have to get into the really high buck vehicles before they
are equipped with first line tires. Although in years past I have seen
new MB's with those awful Michelin Energy tires.

How could they possibly determine that over the phone?? I would have
taken it to the Michelin dealer.

These tires do not squeal around corners on my '04 EX V6. They only
make a small roar if pushed very hard. Wet traction is not a problem
either, but certainly no match for Bridgestone RE930's or 950's I've
had in the recent past (which are simply amazing but ride very hard).

I'm sort of thinking that people have abused their tires to get this
result. Like maybe they were melted by burn-outs and are now
permanently greasy.

I've always had trouble with Michelin Tires. I've swapped over to Cooper.
Have them on my truck,don't need them on the honda yet. The wife has a set
on her Toyo. Tercel. They ride great and handle well. Haven't driven it in
the rain yet, but if there were any problems I'm sure she would have told
me.She swears by them.
