The New Ford Fiesta... who else is interested?
I currently drive a 2007 Fit Sport.

But, I recently got to borrow a Fiesta from Ford for a week. Here is my review, enjoy:

Thanks for the link Ron........
Maybe there is something about Myers and Fiesta's! My brother-in-law and I ran a Fiesta in SCCA road racing in the late 70's into early 80's. These were the German built S models and we did pretty well. We won our biggest race at Charlotte motor speedway in 1979.
As I posted earlier I'd looked at the new car if it was available when I needed a car in May. Doubt I'll trade my Fit but happy to see Ford build something I'd like to own! Thanks!

Hey Dave,
Cool! I forgot to add that my first car was a '78 Fiesta. :)
If you have any pics of your Old School Fiesta, race action or not, I'm sure people would dig seeing them. There is a forum especially for the early cars here:
Nod to the Old School - Fiesta Faction
Thanks!

Finally a thread I can jump in on. The Fiesta was at the top of my list, but there are three negatives for me that kill the deal.
First, the rear seats do not fold flat (it seems).
Second, it will not be out when I want to buy.
Third, we will not get what I have seen in the Euro-spec models. Meaning it will be stripped down (like everything else). I am not seeing anything suggesting a nav option.
Oh well, it looks great. Honestly it would be a tough choice if it was out in October when I plan on buying. It should be good for Ford though.

I wouldn't get ahead of ourselves here. It's american and I know there reliability has gotten better over the yeasrs but it's still a Ford.
Going by some of the pics it looks a bit too big and the way the seats fold down are enough for me to say no right now.
I'm just a Honda whore though, so you'll get a little bias out of me, sorry.

i actually rather like the design and hope that the car does well for ford.
i expect it to put up better numbers than the fit, given hondas penchant for cursing our cars with craptastic tires from the factory.
the reviewer already stated that the steering is not as direct as in the fit...and as nice as the interior is...well, so its the ge8's. hell so is my gd3's and its almost a ten year old car.
but the fact of the matter is that sportiness of the fiesta wont be enough to trump the utility of the fit which has a good dose of both.
and for those complaining about high winds on the freeway on a 2600lb fit? well....lets just say that i hope the suspension tuning is as european as possible with the fiesta because at around 2400 lbs, its a serious lightweight.
i will say this though: the whole 'changing the game' stuff is silly: the fit has already accomplished that. sure scion came here first, but the true does of fun to drive and the anit cheap b segment car title belongs to the fit. the fit is the benchmark. its the one to beat. even if it gets beaten in the fun to drive dept, its still THE one to beat.

I dig the design, however, I'm not sure how to compare it to the GE, since the write-up by Fiestafaction is comparing it to a GD, when it is compared.
Was it the Diesel or Gas version Fiestafaction?
The 39-41 numbers sound nice for mpg, however, will the US version get that? I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped a 1.8 in the US version since we're already not getting the 60+ mpg Diesel.
I agree that the folding seats are a disappointment. I also don't care for the front grill, except when the car is white, then it looks OK.
I wouldn't mind taking one on a test drive, but buy one?
Hope it does real well for Ford. They are really pulling their heads out of their a**es lately and trying to make cars people want with the responsibility the world needs.
Hey, it's got to be better than Chevy's entry (see aveo).

I've been a Honda man my whole life, except for my one Nissan way back, and this is the first time that I have had any interest in a Ford. If this would have been out last year when I got my Fit, I would have had a tough decision to make.
Well seeing as how you like cars that handle pretty well I don't know if you would like that aspect of the Fiesta. The reviewer seemed to be down on its handling capabilities.
Interesting, had this been out, I'd have definitely given it a test drive, especially since I C4C'd my '92 F150 for my Fit. I'm always leery of first year cars though. I know it's been out overseas, but no telling what they'll change bringing it here. Still, looks like Ford might have a winner here, if it's reliable.
I've been taking care of my brother's Hyundai Sonata while he's out of the country for a couple years, it's a nice, well put together car. I test drove the Hyundai Accent SE while I was looking, not a bad little ride, seemed to handle as well as the Fit, but definitely not as "zippy" or as roomy, not to mention the rear seats being at a 45 degree angle when folded down. That kind of sealed the deal for me, inspite of the Fit being an extra years worth of payments.
Maybe if Ford would offer a Cosworth type motor in it, like they did in the old British Cosworth Escorts......

I'm a hardcore third generation ford guy....and this honda fit was the first jap car i've ever bought!
If the fiesta would've been out this month...i would be driving it. You can't beat SYNC and the better mpg with a little more torque!
