chrysler going bankrupt
Apparently chrysler is announcing its bankruptcy on friday. I don't know if it is just chrysler, or the whole jeep/chrysler/buick line up. I am sad for all the ppl that are going to get laid off, and more sad that it seemed that the company never tried to change for the better.

That sux. I hadn't heard that, though I had heard that Daimler sold its remaining stake to Cerberus. Anyway, it seems to me that Chrysler tried a lot of design and marketing strategies, but just never got the quality thing down.
Oh, and I think you meant Dodge rather than Buick. Buick's part of GM, which isn't bankrupt. . . knock on wood.
One question I have- why do we always hear about things like this before they're "announced"? For instance, if somebody decides to run for President, his/her candidacy is always announced a few days after everybody knows anyway. What use is an "announcement" then?

i just heard on the news yesterday that Chrysler might be able to avoid bankruptcy. come friday, they will have pounded out a contract with Fiat and come to a market share agreement with their bond holders.
it would be nice to see Chrysler stay open. too many jobs have already been shed in the automotive industry.
**EDIT**
as soon as i open my mouth, this article pops up

CAPTER 11... sorry Chrysler, too bad your cars sucked

Well there's at least one good thing that might come from this...
Fiat planning to ship 500, Alfa Romeo 940 to U.S. next year
Alfa Romeo is coming back to America!!!
Put me on the waiting list for one... thanks.

Don't forget: Coahuila, Mexico; Toledo, Oh; Windsor and Brampton, Ontario; Fenton, Mo; etc. IIRC, most of the people who work for Chrysler in Detroit don't actually live in Detroit.
It seems odd to me that Chrysler plans to pair up with FIAT to produce vehicles. I quote part of this AP report:
Doesn't FIAT stand for "Fix It Again, Tony"? I can't imagine what a Fiat/Chrysler mix is going to be like. And, heck, my Fit already gets 40+ mpg.
"Eventually"... Hmmmm

Under the deal, Chrysler would gain access to Fiat's expertise in small, fuel-efficient vehicles. The U.S. automaker eventually wants to build cars that could get up to 40 mpg, far more economical than its current fleet focused on minivans, Jeep SUVs and the Dodge Ram pickup.

Fiat is ranked last in satisfaction rating in europe. And chrysler is near the bottom in america. I can't see this ending well.

Chrysler's lineup was expensive to begin with. they build SUV'S when they know gas was high. the gas mileage was horrible. I think they should go under and partner with mitsubishi. some of their engines are made with them anyways.

The auto makers are going to go through all this trouble and I bet in two years if gas prices level anywhere below $2.50, the majority of America is going to come down with gas price amnesia and be willing to sarifice MPG for more room and more HP.

What kills me here: BHO fired the CEO of GM Mar 29th, then on April 13th told GM to prepare for bankruptcy by June. 11 days later, the government loaned GM an additional 2 Billion. -shakes head-

Ha! I didn't notice that you're in 'The D'. I drive for a big bus company (our station is on Howard at the Lodge) and love coming to Detroit. I've probably walked a 100 miles on layovers up there (mostly Geocaching) and met so many nice people. Despite the appearance in a lot of places, it's a really nice town with some great folks. Yes, I did type that with a straight face. I meant it!

I should get a free hemi engine since i paid my tax dollars to help them. I have owned a PT Cruiser & that was my biggest mistake so far. But i kinda doubt that I would swap it in my fit though

I just checked out Alfa Romeo's website and the Mito GTA looks pretty amazing. Heres the link to the main page with the video if anyone wants to check it out.
Alfa Romeo: a Brand at the cutting edge of design and technology
It looks like it has 120hp and an option for twin turbos?! This is one of the few cars I would trade my Fit for.
And according to another article I read this car will be in the U.S. sometime in 2011, it would have been here in late 2009 but the horrible economy set them back.
