Fit vs VW Rabbit
VDub has got a few good cars comin to the stats soon or some that are already here.. such as the Rabbit it has made its way back across the seas and here in our mists.. It comes with a 2.5L backed at 150hp.. Iam not to sure of much else but it will be competing with the Fit priced at 14.9k, it also sports an option for a mini body kit and upgradeable to 17s. Looks like it could give the Fit a run for its money.. check it out here and tell me what you think.

Electronic Stabilization Program (Rabbit for $450)
and
Traction Control (Rabbit appear to have std)
on the Fit (Honda would call it Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with Traction Control).
I assume it's nothing like the Fit or Vibe/Matrix as far as headroom and space. And I'm personally probably never going to buy a VW- friend has had trouble with several in a row. Certainly an option for some.

I drove one back to back with the outgoing Golf model - both were MT. The new model is lots better for about the same MSRP, though they are now heavily discounting the outgoing Golf. The engine has a lot more grunt. The ergodynamics are much better - I especially hated the shifer location of the older golf - too far fwd for me, like the Matrix's one is. Also feels less sloppy than the outgoing gearbox. The only complaint is that clutch effort could be lighter with less travel.
Tighter supension with a lot less body roll than the old model.
And you can get a sunroof, unlike the Fit:( .
The only problems were :
1) It's a VW. Even though it seems a lot better than the outgoing one, I'm still suspicious of their reliability.
2) The gas mileage sucks compared to the Fit - can't remember the #'s now but it was low 20's if I remember, maybe even lower than the Mazda 3.
3) No AUX in, but it did support MP3 disks.
Bottom like - If you like VW's this is a big leap in comfort and performance while keeping a reasonable price. The interior fit and finish is more upscale than the Fit. But I won't buy one......

Saw a commercial for the Rabbit -- they were multiplying rapidly. I'm very fond of rabbits, the four-footed kind, and I love the logo. Consumer Reports was not kind to VWs in general. I would have looked at it a couple of months ago had it been around. I checked out the VW wagons that were available back in March/April '06 and got sticker shock. The salesman told me once I test drove one I wouldn't consider anything else. Wrong. I'm happy with my Fit.
