My Ruckus *update Pg 2*

14 Attachment(s)
So I embarked on a new little project. I picked up a Honda Ruckus to commute to work and save gas (100mpg was awesome). I love this scooter… but it was SLOOOOW! I immediately knew I was going to swap the motor out. I started acquiring the parts and got the swap done. Heres a little build thread to where it is now.. I still plan on painting it and some other go faster goodies.

Nice!! I have a few rucks as well.

Same thing. Too slow. Modded the crap out of the 50cc and then was like screw it. Got the gy6 swap from killerscooter as well.

Also have another one with a grand axis swap in it. Maybe I'll post some pics later when I get home.

Ride safe!!

MNfit 09-23-2011 03:34 PM

that's kind of bad ass. To bad having something like that up here is no where near practical. So what kind of engine did you swap into it?

lungfish23 09-23-2011 03:42 PM

It's a 150cc gy6 engine.

So much more fun!! And safe. The 50cc engine was dangerously slow

JDMchris.com 09-23-2011 03:42 PM

its a GY6 150cc motor. "Chinese Honda Clone" my top speed so far with all stock CVT was 63mph.. I just picked up a variator, wider kevlar belt and slider weights.. hope to get closer to that 70mph mark.

MNfit 09-23-2011 04:14 PM

goddamn, 63pmh on that thing! that would be some scary stuff

JDMchris.com 09-23-2011 05:21 PM

its not that bad... theres guys that are pushing 80... i think thats more sketchy lol

MNfit 09-23-2011 05:25 PM

lol yea 80 would be pretty sketchy

Texas Coyote 09-23-2011 06:19 PM

I have a very low mileage 70cc Honda Passport that I need to get a 110cc clone engine for... I wish I had gotten a 250cc Ruckus when they were making them.. If I was to get creative and had a run of pain free days I could do up my Helix or Chinese made Vog with a 265cc Yamaha clone engine into a similar machine.

Very nice man! I want to do this same thing but I can never fine a ruckus in good shape near me. Im curious, are there any fork mods available to push the front wheel further out? i feel like that would help stability as well at higher speeds.

no available kit to do that. has to be custom fabbed, but there are a few who have done it.

solbrothers 09-23-2011 07:33 PM

how much did that cost you total?

JDMchris.com 09-23-2011 08:41 PM

less than $1300

I dig the Ruckus Chris. What CDI and what weight sliders did you get?

I tinker with a few 150cc GY6 powered karts here. Fun little engines, very rev happy too if you have the carb jetted and tuned right.

Word to the wise: Keep a good eye on that Kevlar belt. I had one snap on me while driving my kart 2 years back. The Kevlar somehow got behind the variator and cut the seal for the shaft it rides on. Gave me a nice steady oil leak and I never used one again.

I've always wanted one! This things are nice to go around in. Hope you bring it to the next meet.

Whenever we have one

I picked up some 10g sliders and am using a dr pulley variator and clutch spring. Stock CDI so far.
