Despite saying firmly for the last few years that they were not pursuing direct injection, it looks like Honda is going to revamp their whole current engine line with new DI versions of their 1.5, 1.8, 2.4 and 3.5 engines according to reports from the Tokyo Auto Show. Also involved are VTEC systems that use late intake valve timing for Atkinson Cycle operation at low loads.

Interestingly, the pictures show the injector being a side location instead of a central location. I say that's interesting because recent developments by other automakers have led to more central injector designs.
