Update on driver side JDM folding mirror: I opened up the base and found that the plastic around the three screws that hold the base to the mirror assembly had cracked. I have since reassembled the broken pieces using liquid nails adhesive. This should resolve the loose base issue I mentioned in the original post. Here are some pics of the repair:

Not gonna lie, I'm very tempted by the retrofits and the power folding mirrors. But I'm all the way in NYC. =/
