VALVE ADJUSTMENT - *SOLVED* - Misfires eliminated by replacing injectors
3rd Generation GK Specific DIY: Repair & Maintenance Sub-ForumThreads discussing repairs and maintenance you can do yourself on the 3rd generation Honda Fit (GK)
*Update: I’ve drove 70 miles. Opened the catch can today to put in some stainless steel wool, there was already a ~teaspoon-teaspoon 1/2 of oil in the can. I don’t know how much the oil vapors affect the valves, but it was there. I’d say that oil also gets onto the valvestems from going up and down thru the seals on top.
My goal with this car is to get as many more miles as possible. We’ll see if any of this helps
I mounted the can using the existing hole near the hood latch that has the wiring coming across the core support.
using the existing hole I only had to drill one hole. I mounted the clamp using 3/4 inch spacers and made sure it did not hit the intake or wiring near the intake.
So the CEL came back after 162 miles? If so, really not much to worry about. Indeed ... 'random' misfires. Now ... if there were a way to identify when/how often these misfires occur. Not sure if hooking up to the car's computer you would be able to extract this info.
Like I said before, I drove my beloved (RIP) Suzuki Esteem with the 1.6 liter for 3 years throwing me the misfire codes. Cat never gave up, and fuel economy as expected. Keep on motoring!
I wonder if the stability control works as intended given the icon is lit up in the dashboard. I am not sure if some functionality is ran in "retarded mode" when these lights show up. When I had them come up on my dashboard, I ran the car for the weekend no issues until the dealer visit.
Not sure, car runs fine engine wise after lights come on. Don’t know about the stability control. I usually get where I’m going and then clear the codes.
As long as it keeps running smooth with good fuel mileage ill just clear the codes and keep on movin.
Things ive tried.
1) New plugs
2) New coils
3) Valve adjustment
4) Intake Valve Cleaning,
With the high miles I’m not interested in having a dealer look at it. Sounds like they have trouble diagnosing this issue anyway.
I do plan on the bigger battery upgrade soon. The battery now is stock and 3+ years old, but that’s just a peace of mind diy, as I frequently drive 2+ hours from home and want to eliminate any variables that I can.
Always the same code: P0301, P0303, P0300

4d_POWER,
Do you clear the tire pressure light also? This light seems like it should be in no way related to your situation. I can understand stability going into a safe mode since the engine is not sure it has complete control over itself. But......... getting a tire pressure light is just plain funky.
I am excited to hear about the new battery. As a former parts store manager, ten times or more in my life I have seen dashboards turn into Christmas trees and even watched automatic transmissions lose their mind when a batter was having an issue. (All on GM vehicles)
Thank you for all your dedicated work to document the cleaning, and other work.
I can't see why the misfire would cause stability control, steering, and low tire warnings.
I'm wondering if the real problem is a faulty ECM. It's not that common, but can happen.
Before anything else though, I'd try putting a new battery in it. Like Cycling said above, strange things can happen if these modern cars don't get the juice they want.
Made it 816 more miles then same CEL codes.
Heres the weird part. Drove fine up and down the east coast 80+ mph 40+ mpg. Got home no codes, got in the car this morning pulled out kinda lugged it in second gear and bam, dash lit up like a Christmas tree. LOL
Cleared codes and keep on keeping on.

Coolant loss - checked it it’s within the marks but will mark the line it’s at now and watch.
Havent tested battery - I’ll put a meter on it this week, plan is to replace it with the bigger one, it’s original OEM with 130k+ miles. Just been a little busy.

My fit's coolant level goes down over time. I bought my 2016 with 10k miles with a literally empty coolant tank (just a smear of coolant at the bottom where the hose collects). I am at 20k miles now and coolant level is down to low mark already. Not sure if there's something wrong with my car. But I did notice that the coolant level changes when the engine is hot versus cold, so keep that in mind when checking the level.
Have made no changes lately. New code p0420 Cat. I think I read somewhere these cars have 2 cats? Like a prewarmer and then the main? Anyone have any documentation.
Good fun!
No noticeable drop off in performance.
You keep scanning the obd2 codes... I think you need to have it ready by a dealer and see if there are any other hidden codes. Maybe a code in another module. Manufacturer have additional codes that are not part of the obd2.
TL;DR = the misfire's slowly ate away at the HG. I was lucky enough to catch it early, before serious damage occured. (most other prius gen 3 owners = no so lucky, and will either blow the HG, warp heads, or blow the entire motor)
