Arrow Ready to Drive? Auto Cross June 1st.

I'm calling all GD3's to come out to Texas City for the SCCA Solo II event held at the Gulf Greyhound Park. Admition is free to spectate and ride along. It's $25 for members to race and $50 for non members. I've been attending since December so I'm about six months into it. I'm hooked! Let's see what YOU think about it.

For those of you who want to run with me in STF or any other AM class you MUST be there at 8:00am. We have to register, get inspected and walk the track. So get lots of rest because your going to need it.

Is a helmet required for drivers? If so, what safety specs?

Yes they are required but they have loaner helmets you can use. But if you bring your own make sure it's "snell" approved.

I'm planning on going but debating on participating in the event itself. The time for the drivers meeting and 50 bucks isn't a problem, its just that I don't want to upset my uncle by quickly wearing out the tires and possibly voiding the warranty.

Another question: Are drivers 16 and up allowed to drive without a parent/guardian in the car?

The tires will get a little bit of chew but not too bad, it's only four laps. I'm not sure what to tell you about the age thing. I'll have to check on that.

I couldn't find anything in the rules about age. But I do know that we have Jr. kart class that races out there. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone get carded to race before. So with that being said, you should just come out and give it a shot. If they don't let you race, I'll take you for a ride in my Fit just to show you what it's all about.

Change of plans, to watch minors have to have 1 of their parent or guardians have to sign some documents. To drive the minor has to have both parents or guardians on location for documents and one of them in the car for the runs.

So I'm basically screwed like a nut in that situation. Ah well, next year around July I'm absolutely positive I'll be out there.

Bring a video camera and stuff it inside the hole of the passenger headrest. We wanna see a first person point of view some of your runs.

Well I had a blast (as expected). I got 1st in STF and it wasn't by much. My co-worker in the Yaris came close to beating me. I'm waiting to get the times off the website to see just how close it was. AllGoCRX showed up. He got there late so he didn't race against me but ran in the afternoon. He said he's hooked now. For all those who missed out (all two of you) you should come out to the next event on July 6th.
