Angry Head Gaskets Are Yummy - SH!T

Looks like my fit just om nom nom'd my HG. All the signs are there. White smoke, runs rich, less power, hard to start, misfire detected in cylinder 1 and 2. Just have to compression check to be sure. Ugh. Thank god the gasket kit is only $140. Please dont be scorched, Please don't be cut, Please don't be cracked. Looks like I'll be replacing that lost motion spring myself while I've got the head off anyway. Shit, maybe I'll dremel PnP it.

It doesn't really make sense though, if you look at the coolant passages they kept them far away from the fringe between cylinders. Mindfreak.

Also, absolutely no impact on cooling. Temps are exactly the same as usual.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but pessimists are never disappointed

How many miles did it take before this? Now is your chance to port the head and other things.

I saw this and immediately thought "Oh sh*t..." Good luck dude. At least they aren't too expensive. Probably wont be fun to replace 'em though.

That sucks! But I may have found a head gasket for cheaper...

Search Results : Bisimoto Engineering, Where Efficiency Meets Technological Perfection

Stumbled across this before reading your thread. Bisimoto has 3 head gaskets for the L-series engine.

You didn't see the massive intercooler in the bumper? And the fact that it's a GE8?

Good idea but l15a7 has all new cooling jacket design, I'm sure gaskets won't interchange. I don't believe anyone has made anything yet

There are no ge8 usdm turbo kits. This is the only one in USA. It is homebuilt.

I hope its the just the gasket and then tune down a little. Change the head bolts to better ones.

Well if you didn't blow up your rad, pop the cap or run out of coolant you may not have popped the HG. Did the dipstick pop out or anything visually out of the ordinary?

Do you think you detonated under boost?

You could have a malfunctioning PCV, or bad valve stem seals...

This could also be transmission fluid getting sucked through a vacuum line.

The three worst case scenarios would be bad HG, cracked water jacket in the block, or a cracked head.

Your misfire codes are telling me it could be a cracked head

If it is just a bad HG I would polish, blend and knife edge the head, clean up the combustion chambers then slap some new head bolts and HG on... get back to boostin!

We know the boost its self didn't do this for anyone who is planning on chiming in with something useless or inflammatory.

I say this because there are GE8's around the world running boosted, and several more than 14psi. ANNGGERR is pushing 1.25bar.

Do you think those nitrous backfires from last year are finally coming back to bite ya?

Funny story, cylinders 1 and 2 are the same cylinders I melted plugs in with nitrous.

I was afraid of that.

It was the first thing that occurred to me when you said your temps were normal

A leak down should help you diagnose it. Or "seafoam."

I've never heard of using seafoam as a diagnostic?

Ugh, WTF is with this engine. Now it just fired up fine for me and is running happy as a lark. This is the same thing that happened when I was having so much blow by that it was smoking out the pcv valve and then suddenly it stopped.

That shit makes smoke pour out of every available crack. A dab of ATF does the same, but seafoam is better.

So introduce a little at a time through a vacuum line and see if you can track down any leaks.

Coming to a Fit near you:

Super Happy Fun Smoke!
