150k miles problems
Hey FitFreaks.
Im new here and I know how many times this problem has been posted here and ive read almost every single post about it but im a little confused.
my 07 fit auto sport has 150k miles my check engine light came up, took it to autozone and they gave the code P0420. I read about it but the thing that confuses me is what the little paper says. there are more than one problem listed. i will leave a picture of it and hopefully you guys can help me.
Thank you in advance.

Looks like the cat might be screwed. Here's a cat converter for 40$
Eastern Catalytic Converters, 49 State Direct Fit Eastern Catalytic Converter
There are "performance" cat converters for over 150. I'd also try a fuel injection system and carburetor cleaner like the one stp makes.

I have a stock cat laying around. Only used for 18k miles. If you would like it, throw me an offer. 07-08 GD.

Yes and no. Misfires show as lean spikes to you O2 sensor. It could very well be an exhaust leak, though.

The receipt just lists possible causes of the P0420. They are all valid.
1. The first is most likely if you have a performance "tune" or chip installed. These often make the mixture "rich"...more fuel for more power. BUT that can reduce the life of the Cat by making it work "harder" trying to clean up the exhaust.
A bad O2 sensor could cause this as well. BUT, you might have noticed poor gas MPG before the code came up.
2. Air leak speaks for itself. Any noises from the exhaust?
3. Ignition...ever had a misfire code or the coil-pack problem? Ever adjusted the valve clearance? Replaced plugs on time (105K miles)?
4. Any of the above could have ruined the converter...if you think that's it, grab BlueCell's old one. That is a VERY generous offer.
Anyway, regards replacement cats: The OE ones are expensive. They should be, as they are engineered (by US law) to last at least 100K miles. Aftermarket converters might not last as long...how long do you plan to keep the car, anyway? (PS: Magnaflow is a good brand of exhaust and converter IMO)
