All right this is starting to become an annoyance. It started happening after I put on the wheels(16x7 on 205/45s).Before the wheels i was getting roughly about 31mpg in the city and the empty light comes on at about 290.After,it would come on at about 260.About a week ago I went out of town I put in 9.2gal(cause that is when it clicked) and put about 200 highway miles and 80 miles city when i came back,i pushed it to about 320 on the trip meter and finally filled it.I put in 9.8gal when i filled it again.
Sorry just wanted to rant
this sucks,it's slower AND gets worse mpg

yeah,I just didnt think the hit would be this big.I ran the same spec, well almost(it was on 205/40s) on my old single cam 1.5 non-vtec '94 civic coupe and I was still getting consistent 30+mpg in the city.
o and btw eversince I've put on the wheels, the weather coincidentally is much more pleasant so I barely use the ac.I thought I was gonna get better MPG..so much for that

Do your wheels have bigger rims? Bigger rims make wheels heavier, and it'll be slower and have less mileage.

260 isn't bad. I've dealt with periods or seasons of having 270 miles per tank.

The weather can contribute to many factors. Cold air = low tire presure. i just read on another thread colder areas oxygenate their gasoline so it works better in codl temperatures but have lower mileage. Etc.

Physics. Remember rotation, it isn'ta bout weight or mass, it's about inertia. This means the mroe radius it takes up, the "heavier" it gets. For example, a 14 inch 5lb hubcap is "lighter" tan a 15 inch 5lb hubcap, even though both have the same amount of metal.

yes the wheels are bigger(16's as opposed to 14s)but the weight difference is minimal since they're lightweight wheels(somewhat)
LIke I said, don't necessarily feel bad. Some ppl get as low as 22 mpg on this forum. 260 per 9.7 gallons (26.8 mpg) isn't that bad. My old civic EX (automatic) gets 27 on average.
Horrible gas mileage
What's that translate to in L/100kms? I live in Canada and I've been disappointed with my mileage as well. I can't get much more than 400 kms to the tank in the summer, 300 kms in the winter. Do I need to get it checked out to see if there's an underlying problem?

Have you checked to see if the odometer is off? The bigger wheels may have skewed the odometer readings and when you see 260 maybe it's really 290. If you have a gps unit you can easily check or get on the highway and watch the highway milage markers along the side of the road.
