Went to fuel up today, 335.9 miles to 8.236 gallons (topped up to see if it can take anymore, but couldn't). I do mostly to and from work driving with the Fit, mainly PA backroads smathered with stop signs and traffic lights. I'm impressed, can't wait to see the MPG I can get on a long highway cruise. Oh, it's a 2008 Fit Sport with MT and 8500 miles.

 

I just got my 2009 Fit and after 340 miles of city driving am getting 36.2 mpg. I would like to get 40mpg. Anyway thats the goal.

 

Are you on stock tires?

 

Yup, I'm on stock tires, but lighter wheels (~10 lbs each). I run about 38 psi in them.

 

I don't know how the hell you guys do it with the mileage. Granted I'm all city driving I really only get about 29 to 32 miles a gallon. Right about 270 to 280 miles on the trip odometer the gas light comes on.

I don't really beat on the car either. 1st and 2nd gears are rev'ed to about 3500 rpm (with the occasional 4000+) and 3rd through 5th not even close to that. I rarely use the AC.

I guess as long as I'm getting what Honda says I'll just be happy.

Don't get too obsessed about some of the mileage claims, Cherk.

I was reading too many claims and was wondering what was wrong with my car. Go to Fuelly or Truedelta websites and look at the figures being reported. If you throw out the highs and the lows, I'll bet 98% of us are in that middle range.

Although the EPA estimate system is far from perfect, you just don't kick those figures ass like some claims that are being made, unless Honda screwed up and put some Insight engines in some of these Fits.

My car has less than 1000 miles on it and last weekend we took a trip along the PA Turnpike. Traveling at a pretty steady 65 MPH, I did get close to 38 MPG or 5 over EPA highway. When the claims start going up much over that, I begin to become skeptical.

Now on this second tank, I am driving around town mostly with the gauge reading about 34 MPG so far. Take out the error it has and I'll be around what you are getting........28 to 32 range.

For one thing, the car companies test these cars themselves for MPG. If EPA testing was that much lower than what Honda tested at, there would be something resolved.

Maybe I'm just getting too old and set in my ways, but I got to call BS on a lot of these claims.

 

Ha, yeah you make me feel better. I always kinda questioned many of those "lofty" claims myself. I'm planning a cross country drive next year to my home town so we'll see then I suppose.

Subtract ~10% for gauge error.

Weird things happened to my mpg gauge indicator earlier. My avg was showing about 37 mpg driving on the freeway, but then i downshifted to third gear and redlined it (sport auto 09). I then looked at my avg mpg and it went down to 17 mpg!!!!!!!! I was flabbergasted so I put it on cruise again and then some 5-10 minutes later, I looked at the mpg gauge again and it was back to 37. Now when I drive, the mpg gauge indicator fluctuates, I really mean fluctuates up and down. Goes from 37 to 35 etc. Should I be worried or what...

 

The fluctuations are big if you just filled up and reset the trip odometer. Yeah, I've seen 60 mpg on my gauge for a brief moment just after filling up and driving home. When I pulled out of the gas station and accelerated, my gauge said about 15 mpg, and then I was able to coast almost all the way home from there, so by the time I parked it said 60 mpg. Big whoop. For those few short miles, I was able to drive like that. I'm not going to go start two threads though that cry "I'm only getting 15 mpg" and "I'm awesome because I got 60 mpg" at the same time. Those fluctuations stop as miles increase on the trip.

 

It's not that hard to get 40 MPG on our Fits. It's awesome.

 

Just to let everone know I'm getting 40.5 mpg and trying for 40.6. Remeber the price of gas is going up.

 

59K on my 08. I usually get 37-38mpg if highway cruising primarily. 35-36 with more in town driving. Better mileage with bald tires. I can get 40mpg with highway only and shifting at 2500.

 

I'm getting a solid average of around ~34mpg in my GD and drive a ton of hills every day. I'm sure if I were on flat land for a few weeks I'd hit 40mpg no problem.

I hope my spreadsheet numbers show up below in this post. We drive mostly in town (small town) in NM, and a bit of highway. Each tank does fluctuate, as expected, but our overall average after 1.5 yrs and 10484 miles is shown below as 41.01 mpg. We run our tires at 45 psi, and rarely use A/C. But we also run on 86 Octane, as that is regular out here. We have had one tank over 45 mpg, but that is it. The increased tire pressure makes a big difference in mpg.

40 MPG is possible depending on setup and driving style. I managed to get about 45 driving up to NY state from where I live. Higher tire pressure helps and lighter wheels definitely help. Also, driving without carrying lots of stuff helps too. I have always calculated it by filling up the tank then taking trip/gallons to refill tank.

 

Well done, now see if you can repeat that over a few years
