Finally got 40 mpg
the 10% gauge error, is it only from 2nd gen Fit? or does all year Fit have the error?? i own a 07 auto sport Fit in Canada, and would like to know if the gauge error also apply to my Fit so i could get a more accurate result.
Best thing to do compare the gauge to an actual calculation of fuel usage. Do this over the course of three tank-fulls and you'll have a good idea how it goes.
I've found my 2010 Sport varies as much as 15% depending on conditions and my driving profile. I'm not too concerned they are, after all, average numbers. Most of the time it's well within 10% and reliable for me.
The only true way is to compare fuel used against distance driven.

I am not talking about calculating fuel usage, i know how to calculate it. I am talking about the recall/settlement of the overestimating odometer with the Honda Fit. Not sure if that only apply to 06-08 Fit or 09+
These are the numbers i got ever since i got the car.
Date, L/100, Average, MPG, KM (uncorrected)
12-27-10 6.55 6.55 35.91 0.00 // (using OEM value, city+highway/2 to start my calculation)
12-29-10 9.52 8.04 24.70 154.40
01-05-11 7.92 7.98 29.70 484.80
01-17-11 9.36 8.67 25.14 405.30
01-22-11 9.14 8.91 25.72 422.00
01-24-11 11.76 10.33 20.00 152.60
01-31-11 8.89 9.61 26.46 443.00
02-09-11 9.47 9.54 24.83 394.10
So skipping the first entry, my numbers are hovering between 24 - 29 MPG, and i do at least 50% highway if not more...
So i am way off compare to the advertised 28 city/34 hwy MPG... noted that, the calculation of the MPG and L/100 has already taken a 3.5% odometer error into consideration.

- yea, i calculated the L/100km by doing KM / <number of liters pumped>.
- What is OBC?
- Honda admitted that there was a 3-5% error in the odometer, and they extended the warranty on it by like another 24000km or something like that.

OBC=on-board computer.
How/why did you get Honda to own up to the error?? Interesting...
You running stock tire/wheels??
I would do a mileage calibration to confirm that % using a GPS or highway markers. Down here the DOT places mileage posts on interstate highways, you guys must have the same thing.
I recently installed an UltraGauge and did a ODO mileage check using them - Pull up to a marker - off the travel lane - line up w/ it and mark mileage, drive a measure mile and line up again and check ODO. My 2010 was dead on.

The error is between 2-4%.
Currently running 185/65/15 for Winter.

You did see this part: http://www.canada-odo-action.ca/
I would do the ODO calibration to see where you car is. I'm not familiar with the GD tire set-up - off sized tire effect things, but a quick check will tell you where you are and then you can apply the adjustments.
A Garmin will check the speedo.
Thing is, by 'running the numbers' you will get real world data. The gauge will give you an estimated average lol

I don't think the settlement will do me anything, is not like i need to take the car back for repair or anything...
I just did a search on odometer calibration and it came up nothing. Any idea where i can find the instruction on how to calibrate it?
The size of my winter tire is fine, the overall diameter is less than 0.1% of the stock size, so i wouldn't even worry about it. In fact, having narrower tires should've given me better MPG, but is not.
My real world data is more or less accurate i think, and i am already doing the average myself using the excelsheet.

By 'calibrate' I meant figure out the fudge factor. That's where you drive a measured distance and compare it to the ODO. This will tell you if the 3.5% you're using is correct.
With being that close to stock on the tires you're okay, but by checking you'll know if and how much the speedo and odo are off per the recall stuff.
Your real world numbers will be correct only if the odo numbers are.
