Smile 43.6 mpg!

I've had my 2008 Fit (automatic, btw) for just over five weeks now. I drive the poor thing like mad - 130 miles per day to and from work. The majority of my driving being on a major highway that's mostly flat.

Obviously, the price of gas has gone up in the 5 weeks I've had her. I've been getting 35 mpg pretty much all of the time.

So, a couple weeks ago, I decided to test the miles per hour theory. I normally drive 70 mph. I backed it down to 55-60 mph, lots of drafting semi-trucks. I've never been one to use the brakes that much, but I'm a lead foot - fast accelerator, love to take anyone off the line. So, I changed that too, trying to keep my RPMs low.

Today I put 8.00 gallons of gas in my car. The trip read 349.0 miles. That means..... 43.6 miles per gallon!!

I'm so incredibly excited. Happy I bought my Fit!

Congrats on your change in how you drive and the BIG results. Tell a few buds of yours and maybe we can all make a difference.

Look at the AT MPG poll on this site. You are in a rare class of users. I'll be very interested to see what the next 5 tanks look like for you

If you keep to the mission, use the Clean MPG site and record your fills. It's a good way to track your hard work and a true incentive to keep doing it. As a side bonus, it lets everyone know your doing your best to help save gas and reduce car emissions in your Fit.

Sorry girl, I did not mean to disappoint you but I think that is hard to believe for an AT fit. My Fit is manuall and I drive conservative and mostly highway but I can't even past 38mpg. If you're fit is MT I will believe.

It can be done if there's absolutly no traffic. I wouldn't be surprised if you get 50 mpg going 40 MPH without stopping/slowing down at all. Going 55 mph on an auto means you're probably means your RPM meter read about 2.0K to 2.5K. I know for sure the sport auto can hold 1.5 to 2K at 40 MPH. But I can never MPG because there's no 40 mph zone without red lights. I just have one question. Are you sure the 8.0 gallons filled up your tank completely?

OP - just this evening, got 34.7 mpg with cruise set at 72mph indicated (over a period of 134 miles), similar to the 35mpg you observed at 75mph.

will be on a long trip this sunday with primarily hwy driving, will give 65 mph a shot.
