I know its not the Skyline but it has a lot to do with the bad styling.

350z Nismo package.
Beautiful WARPED front lip.

New design! Cardboard with CF wrap and paint. Notice the sharp 90 degree angles?
Is that 2 wings mounted on top of each other with a center support?

This is almost as bad as the new Sentras.
Actually, hate to disagree, but that's not bad styling -- it's styling with a purpose. The front splitter on the Nismo Z is designed that way in order to better control airflow under the car to improve downforce. It's a design that's used on a number of dedicated GT racecars; first ones that come to mind were the JGTC GT500 Supra's and GT300 Amemiya RX-7's from a few years back, but there are others:

The rear diffuser on the Nismo is coming from the same school of thought as well -- it looks the way it does in order to reduce turbulence and drag that would be caused by a more 'normal' style rear bumper. With the kind of rear bumpers normally found on cars, you get what's called a 'parachute effect' where the air flowing under the car gets caught up in the open space of the rear bumper between the actual metalwork and the turned-in lip of the bumper cover; in essence it acts like a parachute and causes drag that slows the car down, plus it introduces turbulence that screws with the flow of underbody air and lowers the amount of downforce generated while adding even more drag. That's why all GT cars run some sort of rear diffuser, to eliminate the effects of the turbulence and drag (NOBLESSE has one for the JDM Fit, and it noticeably improved lap times on their demo car. AJ-R also has it on their Fit and they took 1st at the last time attack.).

I got no excuses for the rear wing though, it sucks. I'd rather have a full GT wing instead.:)

Heres a quik video i just found of what i think is THE BEST on board computer/Nav EVER to be put into a car. Yes its similar to the R-34 Skylines but the R-35's is much more advanced. They just touch on the Car info read outs they dont talk about the iPod integration and all the other great stuff it has. Check it out, its worth 7mins of your life!

dude...my friend just put some money down for a gtr once its available. But unfortunately he had no color preference, but on the upside, whatever is available first, he will get!!! its kinda hard to believe really...but it will be a longgg way till i get to see it still! and yes, he does have the money for this....he also drives a 07 M5, and plans to DD that car and use the GTR for weekends?!?! this guy makes too much money. but it does help that his office is less than a mile away, and he gets reimbursed for gas!

i saw the GTR today in real life at the DC auto show. i have been pretty jaded with cars continuously getting bigger in footprint, heavier in weight, and shifting focus to stuff that for my taste is really boring (in car entertainment, nav screens, blah blah blah) so from the beginning i wasnt too thrilled with the the new R35.

in real life, this car is impossible to ignore. if someone said, you can have a ferrari f430, corvette zr1, 911 gt3, or a GTR for free (but you can't just take the ferrari so you can sell it to buy a ZO6 and a 911 Turbo) my answer would be GTR. i wouldnt even skip a beat.

i havent been this excited about a car since the evo 8 first hit the US market.

Yeah, definitely looking forward to seeing it in person next month at the Pittsburgh auto show. And every opinion I've heard about it mirrors yours -- while pics are fairly striking, in person it just has an immense presence. Then again, so did the R34 and prior models too I think. Sucks I'm not in Japan anymore -- me and my best friend there used to go down to the Nissan Gallery all the time to see cars. He said they had 3 GT-R's a few months back when he went, and was also duly impressed. Only suck thing is that the JDM catalog for it is a bit of a let down -- just a normal full color softcover pamphlet like any other car; the R34's was a full cover hardcover book that came across as very elite. Wonder what the US catalog is like . . .

the car has a lot of lines that are just unique. there just isn't much derivative about it. it's a distinctive car. as far as publications, nissan gave out great posters, but that's it.

i think the worst thing about the aesthetic of it all is the lack of SKYLINE on it. nothing ebay couldn't fix though.
